How to convert your car into a micro camper! | Small car camper conversion

In this video we show you how we did our car camper build so we can go on lots of new adventures in it!
We got really inspired by van life in the past year or so, but we can't currently afford to buy a van, so we thought we'd turn our car into a camper to create our very own small car campervan!
This car camper conversion was surprisingly simple to make, taking only the essentials we need to sleep in! Using plywood and reclaimed wood to create a sleeping frame, we also show you how we made it a little more comfy.
Whilst it probably isn't good for more than a couple of days at a time, it's opened a lot of new possibilities for us to travel around the country and go on car camping adventures!
At the end we'll show you our car camping setup where we include things such as water, hiking boots and food

I'm gonna try this with my fiesta, but I'm on my own so I'm going to try taking the passenger seat and the rear seats right out - unbolt them from the car. Awesome to see this has been tried before and I'm not totally mad.

Fun idea. They do make black out screens for your windows if you want to crack them for ventilation. Windows tend to get all fogged up from breathing in cooler temps and that causes condensation. Some people even put window guards up so if it rains you can still get ventilation without the rain coming in the car. Hope you guys have so much fun!

That's a good idea! I think we're going to look into getting some deflectors to be able to open the windows without rain coming in 🌧️🌧️

This is an absolutely clever and good idea. You will probably get used to the tight fit as the reality is everything is compact but definitely do-able. Looking forward to the next installment.

I think so too! I think that for at least a night or two it'll be perfect in the colder weather, better than a tent anyhow!

Thanks Rachel! Honestly throughout most of it we were just thinking 'what the hell are we doing 😂' but it all came together in the end! It was a lot of fun, I'd recommend it as it opens up a lot more adventures when you can just park up and sleep!

Nicely done guys...good to see others expanding the horizons of "van" camping. Would definitely recommend CarShade brand car shades and Heko wind deflectors for some privacy and ventilation.

I hope it works out for you both. You may need a roof rack container for your other bits and pieces as space will be tight in there. I guess for one or two nights you should hopefully be ok 👍

I paid everyone in copious amounts of tea ☕😂😂 yeah condensation is rough, do you have any tips for keeping it semi at bay?

@@NotAnotherAdventure Good job on the tea! Tips re. condensation... not really. My experience is from living in a VW campervan in Chamonix in November 1990. It was very cold at night, as soon as the sun hit the valley we'd throw all the doors open and hang clothes, sleeping bags and so on over the door to dry out. I guess it all depends on the temperature - cracking a window open a touch could help, if its not to cold. And, presuming you aren't trying to live in the car for days on end, you can dry everything at the end of the trip. I'll look forward to seeing how your test runs went!

@@HollowayTyre yeah currently that's the plan, just dry everything in the morning or at the end of the trip. We've sortof accepted that we probably couldn't do more than a couple of days in the car just because of the space, but who knows!!

That's really awesome! I've heard some really good things about Central and South America, it's on my bucket list to do the Inca Trail! We're hoping (covid depending) to head to New Zealand as a working holiday, with plenty of filming of course! Then maybe move up to Asia once our VISA is up!

Get deflectors on your front windows, that way you can have fresh air in the car at night!

I reckon you absolutely could! I did a tonne of research for converting small cars and saw someone that had converted a smart car into one. If that car can be used as a car camper then any can! If you have any questions or want any advice pop us a message on insta!

This is great. I have an i20 and I'm only 5"7 so I'm definitely going to try this! You may not see this message but was wondering if you had the dimensions of the large plywood sheet ? Cheers !

It's a bit of a tight fit but definitely doable! I'll take a look but I believe it was 1220 by 2440mm. Then I think we went for the 12mm thick ones. Hope that helps!
