No rice cooker and measuring cup? Not a problem!
In this video, I'll show you step-by-step instructions on how to cook rice on the gas stove, the Filipino way. I used "Sinandomeng" which is one of our favorite rice here in the Philippines. I also followed the traditional way of measuring the water using my index finger.

I’m Navajo, this is exactly how my mom taught us to make cooked rice and she’s not filipino. Taste even better with milk, brown sugar, raisins and cinnamon.

I am a white guy learning to make rice properly to surprise my lovely Filippina Paramore. What kind of rice should I buy? I know that probably sounds like a silly question, but I am a Canadian of Saxon descent, I know potatoes and am learning rice, so I know nothing yet.

Any kind of rice will do. But to be sure about the rice and water ratio, try to find the short- or medium-grained ones. Jasmine rice, if it's available in your area.
