It does help but sadly the stretches come back. I don't find that the world is disabled friendly and it's hard. I also lost sexual function very young. Men are a lot more horrible than people realize. Some of the stuff they have said is just so hurtful. I'm afraid I'm going to be single for life.

You bring up some great points. I was so gung ho at first. I’ve always been a very outgoing and positive person. But that awful anger pops it’s head up and my self esteem and self body image goes right out the door. It makes me so mad. It’s been 2 years since my leg amputation and I see myself becoming a recluse. I hate that. And the exercise part-I can barely walk to my car at times. I see amputees run, ride bikes, swim, etc and like I say, I can barely walk sometimes. It’s so weird-my phantom pains had pretty much disappeared until today. My invisible heel is killing me. Does anyone else still get them? Thank you sir for talking about this. You seem to be such a well rounded guy!

Mine just happened.....I knew it would happen about a week before it happened.....mine was just a pinkey toe, but the roller coaster of emotions before it happened, and have made a point to talk to other amputees also

Thanks for sharing! There really is no "small" amputation is there? Any limb or digit loss will have its effect on us emotionally.

My sister was born with her lower right arm and hand missing. As a family we never talked about her disability and we were told by our parents that she coped very well. Many years have gone by. And now I think that maybe she struggled more than we knew and I am wondering what we can do about this?

My friends family did this as well. She said they were trying to teach her that it's okay "no one sees her differently". It never occurred to them she sees herself differently. Now she's on drugs because she used that to cope instead. We are different. Society is not as kind as you are to your family member. Navigating the world is really difficult, society is not as disability friendly as you all think. Society is failing. It's very painful when people say stupid things, especially when they're drunk. Even people you trust say stupid things. I don't know anyone who is an amputee or disabled who is truly happy. Coping is a good word. I'm not coping, that's why I'm watching this. I would say a good place to begin is to actually talk to your loved one about her feelings, not her disability. Ask how she has been treated. Ask if you say anything offensive. My good friend did that and when I told her the things she did she said wow I never thought about how that would affect you. She's very kind now to understand, I'm not ok. I don't know that I'll ever be ok since my disability removed intimate functions very young so dating is difficult but I hope to at least be able to mentally function at some point. 10 years and still waiting. Most of the amputees that have triumphed are only in a euphoria stage. They come and go. Depression seems to be a way of life for amputees.

I can't imagine how difficult that is. Going through the grieving process for losing a spouse is traumatic. Add losing a limb to that and that is crushing! There are no words to bring comfort. I can only encourage you to keep fighting and give yourself permission to feel all the rollercoaster of emotions that come. Healing will come my friend!
