Thanks for this. I'm not a drummer, I play piano, but this helped me count 16th note triplets better than any of the piano videos I found explaining them. When stuck on rhythm, you can always count on a drummer. Terrible pun I know but couldn't resist it.

One thing that really helps me count 16th note triplets is having 10 to about 15 cymbals around me. That visually just keeps me locked in.

Can anyone tell me what notes the drummer is playing in the beginning of foreplay/Long Time by Boston? When he comes in with the crash/snare pattern? They sound like triplets. Crash snare snare, crash snare snare, crash snare snare etc. but pretty fast.

You can count 16th triplets individually by saying Mee-da-lee mee-da-lee mee-dalee mee-da-lee. And if you count the notes in descending tone it sounds like a guitar solo!

So it's basically a sextuplet if I'm correct?

Why must we always 'go to the leg' when we need to slow it down? Are we not allowed to play slowly on the snare drum? :D Noticed this in a few of these older videos from way back when.

So could somebody simplify the answer to the comparison of how an 1/8 note triplet differs from 2 or 4 1/32 notes
@joeschmo31185 жыл бұрын
Might not be the most "simple" response, but this should make sense... - Triplets divide a beat into 3 places where a note can land, and are played in place of where 2 beats are supposed to occur. - 32nd notes are when 4 notes are played over a single 8th note (or to make it easier to understand with this example, you will have played 8 32nd notes in place of 2 8th notes, whereas a triplet will play 3). So with that in mind... If 2 8th notes are played over 100 seconds, then triplets land on 0.00, 0.33, 0.66. If 2 8th notes are played over 100 seconds, then 32 notes land on 0.000, 0.125, 0.250, 0.375, 0.500, 0.625, 0.750, 0.875.)

4:29: Ex. 4 - I believe you're wrong in saying that they're the same. The first time it's a 16th note triplet, with 2 immediate rests afterwards (to complete the triplet), the 2nd time it's an 8th note. An 8th note (in theory) should ring out longer than a 16th note triplet. I'm not sure whether it's relevant on drums, but with guitar for instance they're very different things as far as I'm aware.
