I'm a sophomore in high school and I've always had trouble with triplets because I can't feel the beat. No one in middle school ever really taught me to count it and this has actually taught me. It's simple, and good for my mind. I have an audition coming up and I wanted to know how to do stuff like this, a mixed measure, it's in two days and we barely got the music, I have to do it in front of the whole band. :/ So this is really helping!

Can someone please explain the difference between this and sixteenth note rests (both of them) and 1e+. Thanks.
@NicholasReguin10 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of what you mean in your question, but I believe you mean playing 16th notes, but not playing on the "ah" of the "1-e-and-ah"? If that's the case, the difference is that while you're still only playing 3 beats per quarter note, the spacing between the beats is different in triplets. I'll see if I can break this down like this: The sixteenth notes would be played by going "1-e-and-(rest)", which still has 4 beats per quarter not, even if you're not playing the 4th beat in the quarter notes. Triplets would be "1-trip-let 2-trip-let, etc", where there are only 3 beats per quarter note. Because 16th notes have 4 beats per quarter note and triplets have 3, triplets sound slower when played at the same tempo, and give a different swinging kind of feel to the music. Hope I explained well.

Hey, thank you! I remember when I had this struggle. When trying to play triplets, I would accidently play sixteenth notes resting on the "ah". So, "1e+, 2e+, ..." but I know the difference and feel now. Thank you for taking the time to explain, though! Hopefully someone who is struggling can view this.

Question: Eighth notes divide each quarter note into 2 beats (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +) whereas eighth note triplets divide the quarter note into three beats (1 + a 2 + a 3 + a 4 + a)....*Are all the "ands" of regular eighth notes being hit on the "and" of the eighth note triplet?* If anyone could answer me that would be greatly appreciated.
@Joel-nl2dk7 жыл бұрын
the and isn't the same thing in each one, if your dividing one note by 2 and another by 3 they won't have the same intervals. People just say and to help count, it doesn't actually represent any set thing. The and of the eighth notes would actually fall between the and and the a of the eighth note triplet
@mansoor-martyhassan92065 жыл бұрын
ONE quarter note has 2 eighth notes... right. When One quarter note gets eighth note triplet ...those 3 notes as triplets has to fit into that one quarter note section equally... SO answer to your question.....No The "ands" of regular eighth notes DOEST NOT being hit on the "and" of the eighth note triplet.. Triplets have different pitch and bounce feel all together , so they are played differently in each quarter notes section.. Hope this help you out.

So could somebody simplify the answer to the comparison of how an 1/8 note triplet differs from 2 or 4 1/32 notes

Where does the 8th note come into it? Excuse my ignorance, theory bamboozles me. I can see quarter notes with three equal notes played for each quarter note so 12 notes per bar. Where does 8th come into it?? Thanks for enlightening me.

I count triplets 123 123 123. reason, is cause my brain is trained to think '1 e and a' only when it comes to straight semis. keeping them seperate helps my brain to keep the feels of them seperate. if I were to say '1 and a' in a triplet, the word association brings my feel back to straight semis and that's not what I want for triplets.

You started the quarter note triplet video telling people to watch this video first. Then, you started this video telling people to watch the quarter note video. So which is it?

"8th Note Triplet" WTF is this??? 8th note "triplets"? I am pianist for 10 years and I have never seen something like that in Bulgarian theory of music. Triplets are triplets, 8th notes are 8th notes e.t.c. My friend is saying that there are 8th notes triplets and 16 note triplets which is absolutely dumb. Please answer me so i can understand you or fix your title if I am right :) No bad feelings :P
@NicholasReguin10 жыл бұрын
8th note triplets are played "1-trip-let 2-trip-let 3-trip-let 4-trip-let" when played in 4/4 time. There are 3 triplets in each quarter note when you play 8th note triplets. When you play 16th note triplets, you double the number of triplets you're actually playing. That would be "1-trip-let and-trip-let 2-trip-let and-trip-let 3-trip-let and-trip-let 4-trip-let and-trip-let." I hope that helps.
