First let me start by saying, that I've never even purchased a package of clay. So, zero experience here! That doesn't mean that I don't know a quality video when I see one! (Trust me, I watch a lot of videos) You made me want to run out and buy some clay! Excellent demo, well explained.i loved this video!

I have only just found you and am so glad I did! I have a really, really big bag full of little cardboard boxes and was about to throw them away....... now I don't have to and I can make something really pretty! Woo hoo! This will be great to use up all my odd scraps of clay too as I might do a colour blend to use as my base. Thanks again, I might be your 1200th subscriber!

Following a suggestion from Unruly Housewife to check out one of your videos, I am now a subscriber of yours! Thanks to you both. Admirable of you both to encourage and support each other, as well as helpful to us "watchers". I have found that some artists mention others in their circle and because of that I have learned a lot more. Good luck and I'm pulling for you to catch up to Unruly ( if you haven't already).

The green made a great finish. This box is GORGEOUS thank you for the Tutorial! I couldn't help wondering if there's a reason you don't put the tints in the lids instead of pouring them out on your tile? Since you're not mixing them or adding anything, it'd be okay to do that, wouldn't it?

Joni Wagner, thank you for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. You know it was a while ago I made this tutorial and I don’t honestly know why I didn’t just put the mica in the lid, maybe I thought people would be able to see it better. No reason you can’t do it this way.🙂

Great idea! I'm totally new to making anything with polymer clay and want to do boxes. What do you mean by "tenting" while you're baking the clay, and HOW do you do it? Thanks!
@tjaysilver
@tjaysilver 6 жыл бұрын
Cindy DeGroot, thank you for watching. By tenting I mean covering the clay with a tin foil tray so as to protect it from scorching, it's not essential and to be honest I don't do it for everything but it can help as your oven may 'spike' in temperature and it can prevent a piece from burning.

Christina Augustin, thank you, very kind, no I am pretty sure weldbond isn't the same as pva, i have never tried pva in the oven but maybe you could test a piece on scrap to see it it works, I think the crafters pick glue should be ok. Hope this helps please say if not and I will do my best to find out the info ok.

Hi Can I use a regular oven, if so what temp and for how long?
@tjaysilver
@tjaysilver 6 жыл бұрын
M Teri Davis, Yes you can use your regular oven I did for quite some time until I got a smaller toaster oven. If you are making something a similar size to what I have here then Bake it at 130/140 (275) for about 40 minutes, if I remember I baked it for 30 minutes then I just put a foil food container over it and Carrie on baking for another 15 minutes. Thank you for watching.

thanks for a very good video. a good idea for the card boxes. (I have some ugly plastic ones I cover with two-tone ribbon and beads; this will make a change!). two things: 1) why don't you cover the bottom of the box? I would have thought it would add a lot of strength to it, and give a more finished look. 2) I always put my mica powders in the lid of its container, and work from there. when you have finished, you just tip the excess back in the jar. less to clean up ;) looking forward to your next one.
@tjaysilver
@tjaysilver 7 жыл бұрын
Pam Holloway, thank you for watching. I hadn't really thought about covering the bottom of the box but I may well do with the next one to see the difference, thank you. I tend to tip a bit of the mica powder out as I find it gets caught up my nail which I hate, I do pick the excess powder up and put it back so I don't waste too much.

tjaysilver Aah! I do a lot of gardening, much of it with wet hands. My fingernails have to be really short to stop the soil getting behind them, and to stop them from breaking, so I never considered the possibility of mica powder getting behind them!

so you bake the clay with the cardboard box?
@traceyjones8201
@traceyjones8201 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I baked the clay on the box, you need to make sure it has adhered well to minimise/prevent any bubbles but if you do see any after baking try using something flat while still warm and gently apply pressure to the raised area and it should settle down and hopefully disappear. Thank you for watching ❤️

Lol yes I too have added clay all the way to the top but I saved the day by adding an rim inside the box for the lid to sit on the best part it made my box taller which I had wanted all a long😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹

It is called 'Pearl Ex' it is a mica powder and it will heat set although I do like to seal my pieces when I use it too, either with a spray sealer like PYMII or the Baufix Clear Lacquer (europe only I believe) or a vanish like fimo or duraclear americana range.

Thank you so much for this great video. I've got some heart shaped cardboard boxes that I bought from 'Buddly Crafts' ( buddlycrafts.com ).. They sell lots of different shaped cardboard boxes and they're not expensive. Also, if any of you live in Australia, as I do, you can buy the Wellbond glue from mosaic. com.au. At least I'm pretty sure it's called that. I'll check and make sure, and get back to you if it's not!!

Can the same be done on wood? These are of course gorgeous
@traceyjones8201
@traceyjones8201 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, firstly thank you for watching and your lovely comment. Yes you can cover a wood box, I would recommend you put the box in the oven at the same temp as you would the clay for about 15 minutes prior to covering, this helps any glue to totally dry and also lets you see if there are any cracks that may need filling with a wood glue. The cheaper boxes are ok but you can never be too sure. I tend to not cover the complete box so much now but decorate with paint and pretty paper and then add polymer clay that’s already baked to the flat surfaces as an embellishment. Also be sure to check and double check there are no air pockets, if you see any once baked and first out of the oven you a flat item like another piece of wood to press down on the air pocket to help the clay go flat, doesn’t always work but definitely reduces the bubble. Have fun!
