In this simple tutorial I demonstrate how to decorate a glass jar, using polymer clay, mica powders and a texture sheet. I'm using one with a button pattern but flowers, stars, or many other patterns are also suitable. I also show you how to decorate metal jar lids.
For advice about glues, or sealants, check out thebluebottletree.com/

I love this! I have only been doing polymer clay for a little bit and was wanting to try decorating jars but only found mushroom house style. This is much more my style and the button lid had been intimidating me, so thank you!
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It is a nuisance. I think the tiles on liquid clay worked well (on the lid) but I still needed to put a border on, to tidy the edge. Thing is, it's not an exam, you can't "fail", it's just annoying. Even if you bake it and it sucks you can prise it off and start again. If the lid is intimidating you, do that first - then you won't worry about it while you do the rest! :D xx

I guess we don't fully know but glass jars are created at a temperature that is astronomically higher than baking clay, so I feel like it's pretty safe.

This came out beautifully!! I’m so happy I’ve found your channel! I know it’s been quite a long time since this video was first posted, but I am wishing you see this! Your video has come to me in perfect timing. I’m waiting on my first set of mica powders and Sculpey glossy glaze to be delivered this coming week. I don’t believe the mica powders contain any type of binder in them. I’ve also never used anything to glaze any of my pieces before other than Varathane Polyurethane. My question for you is… when glazing a piece where mica powder was added after baking have you noticed the mica colors muddying together easily? Should I be extra careful and cautious when painting the glaze on? Any tips, or do you have any videos explaining/showing this? I’m a tad nervous!
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I am going to be really boring here and suggest that you make some small test pieces, to bake on the mica and then try out the glaze. It's the only way to really know how it will look. It saves you from having to gamble with something beautiful that you have made. Also the Blue Bottle Tree website might have more technical advice.

@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 8 ай бұрын
The jar will be perfectly fine to bake. Clay cures at very low temperatures, compared to the kiln temperatures needed to make glass. Some people like to let their decorated jar cool down slowly inside the oven (once it has finished baking and been turned off). I suppose it might crack if it got cool very quickly but personally I just take it out.
