In traditional painting I think that this concept correlates to what is called "reflected light." Reflected light belongs to the shadow family. Is a lighter shadow that helps to express form by reflecting light bouncing from other objects in the surroundings. I enjoy very much your videos. Thank you for sharing, Joe! Have a blessed one.

Joe your nothing shy of AMAZING!!! I've been doing Murals for years and you have, in a single brush stroke shown that with a 50/50 blend of talent and technique artist can bump up their game with a little practice. Bravo! I knight thy Sir Mural Joe.

Thank you for watching! If you still are wondering about paint, I have found that most brands will work just fine for you. I especially like Sherwin Williams and Behr interior paints. Wall paint comes in different bases. That's the paint in the can before any tint is put into it. Sherwin has colored bases for the red and yellow which cover better than paint that is tinted in the store. Behr still has the whitest white that I have found so far. I always use Satin or eggshell sheen.

Sure. But I'll tell you now that I used a sea sponge. One without a lot of bubble patterns. I layered the colors from the darkest and greyest to the brightest and greenest. I'll make a video.

For the Blues, I just ask the paint store to tint there ultra deep base, which is the clearest base, with 12 ounces of blue tint. They only have one shade of pure blue. With those colors and maybe a quart of Rustolium black (It's very black) latex paint, you can mix all your own colors in separate containers or on the wall. whatever...It's just paint so don't sweat it too much.

Hi Joe: Amazing talent! I think your talent should be used not only to paint murals but other means. Have you ever treated painting on canvas? If you have do it can be used the same type of paint used in the murals?

Your work is beautiful, man. I am about to paint my first mural in someone else's home and am a little anxious about it. My question: I see at the beginning of your vid that you're using house paint. Can you suggest what would be the best type of house paint as I am totally unfamiliar with the stuff (I use acrylics and oils for personal at home stuff). Thank you for your time and the great vid.

Fantastic skills, as always. One thing I've always wondered about is the greens you use for leaves. In the video it always seems to be too cool and bluish, like phthalo green. Is this the camera cooling things off or what's going on? Like at 7:45 for instance, this is very visible. Are they more warm and yellow in real life? Thank you for these videos, you're an amazing source of inspiration :)

not backlit actually, your just painting natural reflected light. Rim lighting would have the form surrounded by the same temperature light. Whereas your highlights are warm and your reflected light around the back of the form is cool (hence reflecting the blue of the sky.) Great stuff though

This cannot be back lighting. Back lighting would produce a light edge around the image on both sides, with the image being pretty dark, and so not showing much detail. What you have done is to show highlights on the top of the arm, so really it is top and side lighting from the right side.
