OMGosh! I'm so glad I watched this before placing my order for sheet metal. I just got my mini-mill that I can run the 20 gauge I have on hand through for 22, 24 and 26 gauge so I can cut it with my Sizzix steel ruled dies. Yay! TFS!

It should also be made clear that you do NOT have to have someone hold down the table, if you have the rolling mill screwed down properly.

So I purchased an inexpensive rolling mill as a reward for completing my graduate degree, and am very new at using the rolling mill. So I am on the lookout all the time for things to roll :-) My question is- I was at a local fabric and craft store and I saw these texture-embossing plates that are plastic or plexiglass- very rigid, but, would a rolling mill just crush them? They had a really neat texture, so I was wondering..........

Hi There, Thanks for your question. We asked our Jewelry Tech Team. They said that because there are so many types of plastic, it really depends on the material that these plates are made from. Since not all plastics are created equal, they recommend testing out your least favorite to see how it works. Good luck & let us know how it works out.

I'm surprised you put the steel plate in direct contact with the rollers. I was always told not to run steel through (unless protected/ sandwhiched between 2 pieces of metal), as it will damage the rollers. Do you have any problems with this?

Hello Lulu, Great question. Durston is a high quality mill and the rollers are super hard. If you over tighten the rollers to the point that they are almost impossible to turn that can damage the rollers. If this were the case, we would recommend sandwiching the plates. We would recommend sandwiching the plates when the goal is a deep texture, only achieved by really cranking the mill. If the goal is a light pattern, then there is no need. However, in both instances it doesn't hurt if you prefer to sandwich the plates. Hope this helps!

Do you need to anneal silver before roller printing? If so, do you have a lesson on annealing?

YES always Anneal YOUR SILVER BEFORE ROLLER PRINTING :)

Way too much talking from the woman. This is a demo on a mill not about jewelry making. Be quiet and let the man demo the mill. We saw way too little and heard way too much yakkity yak! Silence is golden.
