Hey, everyone! Welcome back to my art channel. Today, we're diving deep into the fascinating world of character design. Join me on this exciting journey as I create a brand new character for my art studio.
After countless hours of research and endless inspiration, I've finally found the perfect direction to start. I've studied some incredible artists and discovered common elements that make their characters resonate with people from all walks of life - lightheartedness and memorability.
But the big question remains - how do you craft a character that's not just memorable but also has the power to tell a story? Well, I've decided to draw inspiration from a cat keychain I picked up in Japan.
With the basics of my character in place, it's time to decide on clothing styles, anatomy, and colors to add authenticity to "Mochi."
However, what truly makes a character stand out is their personality. Character design goes beyond visuals; it's about understanding their traits, which should be reflected in their appearance, posture, and expression.
Props and accessories are fantastic tools for storytelling in character design. Inspired by the cartoon "Luck," I'm creating a coin featuring Mochi's face. You can find the brushes and references I used to paint and create these coins in the video.
Creating unique features and props is a fun way to make your character captivating. In my case, it's ancient coins that also symbolize Mochi bringing fortune (fingers crossed! 😊).
My ultimate goal with Mochi is to spread joy, and character design plays a pivotal role in achieving this. It helps the character connect with the audience and convey the happiness we intend to share.
Consider your target audience, their age group, interests, and preferences. Your character should be relatable and appealing to your viewers, making it easier for them to connect and experience the joy you want to convey.
