some extra info i missed out! - i used around 75/80g of each colour for this jumper (i made an oversized size small); this jumper was made using double crochets, with colour changes every 2 rows - i used around 750/800g for the orange/brown grandad sweater i wore in the intro (it's maybe a size large); this was made using single crochets and a 5mm hook

hey sorry but isn't the stitch in the grandad sweater a half double crochet?

hi! just checking. The one that you were wearing right in the beginning (with the green and brown) is the oversized small that you used ~75-80g of each color for? and the one you wore starting around :19 was around 750/800g for each color? I have a limited supply of the yarn I want to use (I got it on vacation and have about 200g each of 3 colors) and want to make sure!

hi! the jumper which used 750/800g is a self-striping yarn so i didn't do any colour changes! that yarn is thicker and also the jumper is bigger than the one i make in the video :) @@acolling67

hey! i’ll have a look for a video but you just need to place the two pieces together, attach your yarn to both by knotting in through a stitch on both panels, then chain 1, and single crochet or slip stitch in both panels! i’m not sure if that makes sense but it’s sort of like you’re making an extra row up the side but it’s creating a seam that joins the two pieces together

@crochemily
@crochemily 9 ай бұрын
ty! yes i did switch the colours when crocheting the sides together! i started off with the brown and when it came to the next colour i finished the last stitch with the next colour (if that makes sense? there's a little tutorial on changing colours within the vid) and then would carry the colours not being used underneath the other stitches until it was time to pick it up again when i got to the next stripe of that specific colour! hopefully that makes sense but let me know if not!

After each 2 rows of DC (on the main panels and the sleeves) is it a chain 1 and then flip and crochet into the last dc? Xx
@crochemily
@crochemily 10 ай бұрын
hey! if I'm honest, i personally only chain 1 after each row and turn regardless of the stitch i use but you are meant to chain 3 after each row for double crochet! i personally find that just chaining one makes it look smoother but it is recommended to chain 3 to get to the same height as the double crochets

thank you sm for the tutorial! i would love to also make one but i am not sure what kind of yarn i should use, because i habe heard that acrylic yarn jumpers are not breathable so you sweat a lot when wearing them. what is your experience with that? would you say its a problem?
@crochemily
@crochemily 9 ай бұрын
i've always found acrylic to be fine! it'll be sweaty if it's hot weather obviously but for colder weather i think its perfectly fine! it's just like wearing polyester i guess, which can be a little sweaty but not terrible!

When you change colour for the next stripe, do you cut the colour you were using then add it on the next row ? , I hope that makes sense 😅thank youuu
@crochemily
@crochemily 8 ай бұрын
i’m not sure what you mean by add it on the next row but i’ll trim the colour i just finished with, leaving a few inches as a tail, and change into the next colour & then i’ll use that tail to create a few knots with the starting tail of the new colour just to really secure it and then i’ll weave in the tails at the end :) i’m not sure if that makes sense?

Hi Emily, thank you for the tutorial! When creating the neckline, is it more important to look at whether the stitches (where the stitch markers are going to be) align when folded or should I consider that there should be the same amount of stitches from both sides? Hope the question is clear!

Also, it seems my two panels are off by one or so chains - will this be very problematic later one?
@crochemily
@crochemily 6 ай бұрын
hey! i would say either is fine and that it doesn’t matter all too much which one you go for as i’m sure they’ll likely be very similar! but personally i would go for distance from the edge rather than the number of stitches as i feel like that would look more symmetrical :)

Hey loving this pattern!! Im just starting the bottom ribbing and had a couple of questions: 1. You said the last stitch in the row away from the body should be a regular single crochet, after youve done the turning chain should you then do a regular single crochet for the first stitch in the next row too? 2. After you slip stitch to attach the ribbing to the rest of the jumper do you need a turning chain before you start the next row?

hey! thank you! 1. the first stitch should be a back loop only stitch, it’s only that last stitch away from the body that should be a regular sc as this is what gives the ribbing a clean edge! 2. i do a turning stitch but i’m sure you could just not do one? i think it makes it less fiddly if you do do one but you just need to take into account that you’ll have an extra stitch and not to crochet into that when coming back down the row otherwise you’ll increase the stitch count (hope this makes sense 🥲)

Hi!! I’m new to crochet and have tried to find the answer to this question but I’m struggling - so sorry if it’s obvious 😭 when you’ve done the decrease on one side, how do you then attach yarn to the other side of the panel? The only answers I can find are how to attach yarn to another piece of yarn if that makes sense? Thank you! X
@crochemily
@crochemily 8 ай бұрын
you’ll want to place your hook in the first stitch on the other side and then pull your yarn through, tie the yarn in a knot so it’s secured, place your hook back in the stitch and ch however many chains you need for your stitch and then crochet as normal :)

Hi! Quick question, I love the color of the jumper you wear in the intro! Where did you buy the yarn ?

it’s linked in the description as ‘yarn’! :)

Is it also possible instead of measuring how broad your sleeves have to be, to count the rows of the panel (of the hole for the sleeves) and then crochet as many chains as rows in order to later attache the sleeves to the panel one chain to one row? Or will it be to tight and stretch the sleeves to much and create little see through spaces (or little holes)? I'm sorry if it is described complicated.
@crochemily
@crochemily 9 ай бұрын
yes I think that would work! i think for this though you have to be careful with which stitch you use as a single crochet is shorter than a double crochet for example, so if you used double crochet you will need more stitches than single crochet as its taller - if that makes sense?
@franzi.p

ok. Didn‘t think about the stich size, but I‘ll try it out, maybe with two chains per row. Thanks

So I have some finger weight yarn or superfine yarn, can I use it to make this. If yes, what size hook would I need?
@crochemily
@crochemily 8 ай бұрын
yes for sure! i suppose it would depend on what the label says if you still have it! but i’d say a pretty small hook like maybe 3/3.5mm?

I'm using this tut to make a sweater the same size as my all time favorite one but it looks SOOOO big (the OG is REALLY oversized) and I'm so worried I messed it up 😭 I'll keep updates on how it goes though!

is it looking like a similar width to the jumper you’re basing it on? i’ve found that when i’m making the panels i think it looks waaayyy to big but once i finish the piece and actually try it on it doesn’t look as big because of how the piece drapes on the body! :)
@cosmoisntavailable

@@crochemily yeah it is! I never even thought about the draping part, the one I'm basing it on drapes a LOT so yeah that's probably why 😅

Hi! First of all thank you for making this superclear video :) I am currently working on the bottom ribbing, but mine seems so much more tight than yours and I am not sure if it the sweater will fit me when it's done. Do you know what possibly went wrong with my bottom ribbing and do you have tips to make the bottom ribbing more loose?
@crochemily
@crochemily 5 ай бұрын
hm that’s strange im not too sure! make sure you’re making a row for each stitch & maybe you could not skip a stitch when you slip stitch to the body to help make it wider? let me know if that helps? :)

yes i did :) the only difference that it makes is that it looks more seamless (so say if i used one colour yarn to join them, you'd likely see the different colour poking through which i don't like)@@Thatweird_art-girl

Do I really need to stretch out my chain at the beginning? I feel like when I do that I don't reach my required width. I made a chain of 60 and it stretched out to 50 cm. But when I started my rows I noticed how it did not stretch out to 50 cm... so now I don't know whether it will eventually stretch out or if I need to make a longer chain.
@crochemily
@crochemily 9 ай бұрын
i mean to stretch it so that it's straight :) i find my chains curl so I stretch them to straighten them and see if they meet my measurement! sometimes though, you might find that as you make your panels it will start getting a little bigger as your tension is usually tighter for a foundation chain than for your regular stitches (just from my own experience)
