wow a tutorial that actually explains the task at hand with clear step by step instructions and takes the time to answer "why we do it this way"? is this real life? subbed and liked, i know this was probably not a short process for you kudos on being so detailed in such a lengthy project! Im going to attempt my own extension with nylon sleeves and i feel a little better about doing it correctly now. The heat shrink idea was probably the most helpful, i probably would have fought with the sleeve to push it into the large crimp section of the pin to secure it (and probably ruin the overall look).

Thanks for the video, very helpful, I am also about to do my own cable sleeving. Question: what is the thickness size of the nylon sleeve?
@v.aesthetic37647 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by thickness? The thickness of the material itself, or the diameter of the sleeving?
@jojococostudio7 жыл бұрын
Vir1lity PC Customs let's say we flatten the sleeving, what is the flat diameter? I am now eyeing 3mm or 4mm for a 18 awg wire. Just curious what you are using, thank you
@evanhill1103 жыл бұрын
Hi, just wondering how you get a consistent 3/5mm strip using those Knipex strippers as the specs page says the cable stop can only be used for 6-18mm strip lengths

Great video, thanks for sharing some useful tips. In regard to making custom cables. I know PSU's tend to use different modular connectors. I was wondering if people tend to use the connectors from the stock cables or purchase new ones to connect their cables to the PSU?. I'm planning on making some custom cables for a Seasonic Prime Titanium PSU.
@v.aesthetic37647 жыл бұрын
You can make a full, custom set that plugs directly in to your PSU, as long as you know the proper pin-out. That is very important. That is how I make most of my cables, but for the sake of simplicity, I used an extension in this video.
@Flam3h7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. When doing this, would you normally buy new connectors (PSU end) or remove them from the stock cables?. Are there diagrams for the pin connections or would you just work them out from following individual wires from the stock cables?. Obviously 12v / 5v etc. has to be in a certain order for molex / SATA etc.

Love your videos. I want to sleeve a full set of custom length cables for an upcoming build. Is there a rule of thumb for measuring? Or should I just start off with doing extensions as this would be my first go at sleeving my own cables?
@v.aesthetic37647 жыл бұрын
The process is essentially the same for full cables, but you'll be using all female pins. Just make sure you have the proper pinout for your PSU
@mikeljonas22567 жыл бұрын
can you give link to your pin crimper please? p.s what thickness in mm u used in this sleeving? many thanks!
@trumanhw4 жыл бұрын
great and detailed explanation. The only thing that Im surprised by, is that the lengths are arbitrary (except for the outside being longer than the inside) ... Why wouldn't we measure for exact lengths ...? or at least, that's my plan. ?
@Bluntedco.2 жыл бұрын
Would Poly Monofilament Support Wire be a good wire to sleeve up if you want a sleeved wire to be able to bend and stay in place and then bend back to another position and have it stay in place? if not do you happen to know what wire cable is good for that? i don't want to make a usb or anything of that sort but i just want to make a custom cool looking sleeved wire to hold an item in place and to have the flexibility to be able to move it in a different position with out it breaking due to often bending it.
@829thera7 жыл бұрын
True artistry. Have you ever sleeved the other cables like USB header, SATA signal cables?
@v.aesthetic37647 жыл бұрын
not much you can do about the USB 3.0 cable. I haven't messed with the sata cables either, usually buy them pre-sleeved.

Great tutorial on the basics of this. I'm probably going to make custom cables for my build (define mini c on water) as the corsair ones are far too stiff and long in most cases (24 pin and 6/8 pins especially). To follow pin-out are you measuring anything with a voltmeter, or just being meticulous with double and triple checking? Subbed!

sweeeeeet just what i was looking for. IM starting my harnesses soon and needed something a little more in depth. thanks! is there somewhere I can go to get a layout of the exact type of connectors i need to do all the different connections in my build??
@yumirow74873 жыл бұрын
If you want to just do extensions some pair of female and male connector will do just fine (you just need to get the name of your connector ex: 24pin atx). If you are doing customs for your psu specifically, that's the tricky part, since you really need to be careful because layouts can widely change even between a same brand/different revisions of a model

Awesome video! I'm wanting to run some custom cables from my PSU to the ports on the motherboard, I think I've got most of the info I need. But I'm really worried about blowing my system up for just going with my gut, for the wires that use for the cable can I just buy one roll of wire and, so long as I follow the pinout, I'm good for every cable (incl. sata and molex)?

If you want to do full length cables, as long as you follow the proper pinout you will be fine.

Not sure about the diameter. It's actually PET sleeving, I misspoke in the video. The dark gray color is called carbon, and I get all my materials from UPC. It's linked in the description

Looking forward to that. Also, do you have any take on my Seasonic X650 KM3 not having the 24-pin it was supposed to be shipped with? I think its a Japan surplus version but either way this came with this weird connector I think it is supposed to be an optional upgrade for a USB charger while your computer is off but I'd like it removed and I'll paint my cable black or sleeve them if I get a chance. imgur.com/a/A3sCs I'm also worried that this unit could be having faulty or not a Seasonic-grade capacitors used but it does perform as intended by Seasonic I suppose, it just shipped with this cable.

cable extensions plug in to the end of any existing PSU cables. Full length cables run straight in to a modular PSU.
@justinburke34777 жыл бұрын
Got all my materials ordered, just waiting for everything to get delivered. I was wondering how difficult, or what may change, if I wanted to get a nice bend on my 8+6 GPU cable BUT the bend would be on the short side, not the long side like in this video. Would each line still be a 10mm length difference? Im asking cause my case is a vertical motherboard design (tower 900) and the wire grommets are under the GPU which means a different bend than what you would normally find. I did order 14 wire cable combs to keep all the wires neat and parallel and combine the 8+6 into essentially one cable.
@v.aesthetic37647 жыл бұрын
The extensions should be long enough that you can get that tight bend. Good luck man!
