Hello and welcome. My name is Cliff and I'm an Australian gem cutter. Watch me facet a piece of blue Topaz. The final result was totally unexpected as I had to modify and improvise the design midway to avoid wasting a lovely gem. Thank you for watching. Best Wishes.

Bob Ross would call it a happy little Accident. The Gem is magical. The Center looks like it's liquid, and the Gem is shiny from every angle, even from the side. Awesome.

I think this stone is beautiful and don't know where you say you went wrong. I always hated my birthstone Topaz as it was to me always a dull murky yellowy colour, but now I'm this many years old I find that Topaz is so much more than the yellow that I disliked as a child. Beautiful!

I've always thought that these particularly pretty light blue, high clarity, low flash and fire stones benefit from a particularly deep and relatively low facet count cut. Something like an emerald cut. My mom has a nice aquamarine ring that she wore for a while while she had her engagement ring resized. It featured an emerald cut piece of what I assume to be synthetic aquamarine and it is still one of my favorites of her jewelry collection.

Fantastic cut, Cliff!!! Your convex/cab idea was brilliant... Something I would never imagined. I will say that beginning cutters should shy away from your novel technique until many roads are traveled. You made it look far easier than it really is... I salute you. Regards those transfer blocks: I tried three times to contact the fellow to buy them, but must have the wrong address. If you get a chance, resend that info to me via email. Huh, I didn't know you could do that with Topaz. Same process is used on the treated Blue Diamonds, they're gorgeous and cheap since I remember hearing that dirty brown diamonds, which are the lowest value diamonds, tend to produce the best blues after being irradiated. So it's a win win, taking a cheap flawed gem, and then turning it into something uniquely beautiful as no other gemstone has the same colour blue hue as you get on a blue diamond.
