The Handyman- You are truly a rare breed, I have owned many rental properties and finding someone like you would have made my life a dream, I had to do most of the repairs and maintenance myself because it was very difficult to find someone to do small jobs, especially the quality work you do, the little details you do are amazing. Whatever you charge it is not enough. Continued success, stay well..Peace..

True. If I get a choice between a normal handyman and one who's so proud of his work that he's filming it, I'll take the latter

I recently rented my home out. There was a small leak that came in from the flashing around the chimney. I sealed the leak up around the chimney. Your video helped me repair the ceiling. I’m lucky it was a smooth texture. You saved me $$$.

Great job man. I do this kind of repairs daily. I use 20 minute or 45 minute mud. I don't sand, i just use a wet sponge. It's not better than sanding but it works.

Every homeowner needs to watch the 6:25 mark. I tell them I will do my best, but it rarely turns out perfect. If they want the ceiling to look the exact same, I say call a drywall company; not a handyman. They usually forget about perfection after they get other bids. Also, as a handyman, I can say that every time I do a drywall repair, it looks better than the last one. So practice definitely key here.

My rental house had the same issue. The caulking in the kids bathroom had come up and nobody said anything. My property manager in WA didn't even notice it on the walk through. I took a 2.5 hr trip to investigate the property. Water leak from kids bathroom, 3mm vinyl flooring separated in multiple spots, broken 1/4" thick blind, Master bath sheet rock water damage, drawing in every room on all the walls, window screens all removed, pantry door removed and metal window brackets installed for window unit. My wife and I ended up working 4 straight days from 7am to 9pm. It sucked, but we got most of it all done. The painting took the most time. I learned the sheet rock work from your videos. I normally used the sticky crosscut pattern tape. The sheet rock was 5/8" on ceiling and wall....that sucked. I still have one piece of flooring to repair and then a railing has a 1/2" gap from movement. I was going to send you the pictures of the stuff, but I know you are busy. Pricing it was what I was not happy for because my AZ property was repaired for almost half the cost vs what my WA home requested. Summer pricing vs Winter pricing. I used mostly google to figure what is around the average cost. I was getting billed for the top and not the average. Plus, I know they base it off of hourly. I said not my handyman i follow. LOL. Good job again.

Last summer I had a softball teammate fix two damaged areas of my ceilings, after he had repaired 5 incorrectly-installed roof flashings, which had caused the internal leakage. I sure learned a lot about roofs and ceilings. His ceiling repair was quite similar to what you did. Note that the home was just 2 years old when we purchased it in 2004, so I think we skipped the inspection. Anyway, fixed now, and the faucets to the washing machine were reversed, so I just swapped the handles there. Oh well: just shows one never to blindly "assume" competence.

Well done. I have a ceiling repair scheduled for This coming Monday. Absolutely dread it too. This is a smooth ceiling though. Not textured. Would you recommend changing out a whole 4X8 sheet or just doing the small patch like I just saw you do in the video? The damaged area is approximately a 2X4 ft area. Thanks.
@TheHandyman1
@TheHandyman1 7 жыл бұрын
+GEORGE MINCEY I would do the 2x4 repair. With smooth ceiling you are going to have to float it out wide of the repair. It might end up being floated 4x7 or larger. Like I said in this video skim coating the entire ceiling is the only way to completely hide a ceiling repair. Flat ceiling paint also helps hide repairs. I always tell customers upfront what to expext from a wall repair.

Hey good vid as usual but I noticed you jab sawed out the entire perimeter. One handyman to another, I hated the time & effort it took to do that so I clipped a few old M12 Hackzall blades down to 1/16" longer than 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" and use them to cut out the drywall without risk. It also lets me cut right along the center of the stud or joist eliminating the need for slats on that side.
