For a faster process you can also use the boolean method, add weighted normals modifier (to fix those weird looking artifacts) and bevel shader (to add the rim). It works for quick production within blender

I don’t have a problem with using adons, I’m not a vanilla hard surface purist but if you can’t cut a topologically correct hole without adons you should learn to do that first. Then utilize available tools to speed up your workflow

Instead of adding loop cuts to fix normal problems just but shade smooth auto smooth and but “harden normals” when adding your bevel. Way better models With way better normals
