how to cut out a shape or picture in illustrator?

Illustrator can do most of what photoshop can do. So how to cut out a shape or picture in illustrator.
Its' very easy to cut any shape in illustrator. You can also have a live crop where you can adjust the picture within the shape anytime.

why when im doing the part where you make the clipping mask with the first two rectangels over the face does the clipping mask always cut the bigger rectange away leaving the smaller rectangle instead of the bigger rectangle with a hole missing?

I also created outlines for the text, but in the final stage when I make clipping mask, everything disappears.

hey when i select everything then click "make clipping mask" it all gets deleted/becomes white. Can you help me out?

Yup sure, i shouldnt get deleted, it might be hidden outside the size of the shape you are trying to mask into(the most top layer like the example in this video. try pressing (ctrl+Y) and see if the objects are still there. If should also not become white, as you can see in the video example. tell me if you still have a problem or if you can tell me in more detail
