Circular Saw For Beginners Masterclass: bit.ly/3omII1I ,How to Cut a Square, Straight Line….Every Single Time! One of the biggest problems when using a circular saw for the beginner woodworker is cutting a square, straight line. It takes a lot of practice which is why l have made this jig to solve that pesky problem. I’ve called it the S.C. 1000 which stands for Square Cutter 1000 👍😁
I hope you enjoy and find the video useful 👍😁🇦🇺

Top tip: When you fit the first aluminium track, fit it about 1" further in than you need, then run your saw down it and it will cut the working edge perfectly parallel; no measuring = no room for error. 😃

Also thought that might be an idea. Another improvement (although much harder to do, I guess) would be to cut the jig width slightly undersize and put a strip of the self-adhesive splinter guard on there. As used on track saws.

Also, instead of making it so big on the off cut side, you can add another L bracket and make it for your router for grooves, dadoes, and rabits. You can use the side you don't need for clamping it to your workpiece. Or you could make it for your jigsaw. Two jigs in one.

I wish I would have found a saw like this years ago! It does everything that we have asked of it so far. Works great kzfaq.infoUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c on cutting composite siding and plywood sheathing. I probably would not try to use it all day cutting 2X boards, but it's just the right size to throw in a job bag vs. your conventional heavy circular saw. Operating instructions very clear. Came package well. I would definitely recommend you buy this for a friend!

Love the project, Shane! Might I add three tips/additions? 1. Before using the SC1000 on a board for the first time, run the saw through once with no stock underneath. That way, in case your jig isn't exact to your blade, this will cut off any excess so it won't transfer the error to your first cut. 2. Attaching something to the underside of the jig so there's less chance of it sliding while making cuts. Something like sandpaper, grip tape, or foam padding. Something thin enough your saw's baseplate won't slip under you jig. 3. Add some furniture wax to the guide. Less friction for your saw, and lessens the marring of your jig.

Brilliant! I’ve seen some videos where the aluminum guide was mounted on the plywood a bit wider than the width of the circular saw. The excess was then cut off by running the saw along the guide. This makes sure that the aluminum guide and the track edge are exactly parallel. Your second short piece of aluminum is novel and squares everything up! I will definitely incorporate your idea into my track saw guide.

Good point, but then you run a risk of losing your 90 degree factory corner, which is kinda the whole point of the jig. Don't get me wrong, you're absolutely right about the perfect saw line calibration, but for the weekend hobbyist this solution might give the best results with the least fuss.
@andythebritton
@andythebritton 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLastPharm but the accuracy of the cut angle is already limited by how well you've fitted the guide rail. If that's not perfect, the factory edge isn't going to help. If I was to make this, I'd use a framing square to set the angle of the guide rail rather than trusting to pencil marks against the base plate of the saw.

The SC1000 saved me so much time. Love it and love the name too. I appreciate you jazzing it up, I didnt have time to do that but will do at another time. Also I prefer 4” for the cut out. Thank you for your not only a very useful jig but a very entertaining instructional, I purchased a cutting guide a few years ago for those straight cuts with a circular saw but this jig is way better and far more accurate.

That settles it. This is now going to be the second project of yours that I'm going to do. Made your stackable saw horse set plus a second, narrower set this week and I'm loving it! Side tip: if you're cutting large sheets, use a big piece of XPS insulation foam as a backer so when the circular saw blade goes though, it's not cutting the concrete below.

Whilst the jig I built for my circular saw is not as fancy as yours (mine is just some hardboard and a strip of pine), the idea to make a jig came just in time for my recent project (building a sim rig for racing games). I had never been able to cut particularly straight with my circular until I built this jig - what a HUGE difference. I used quite thin hardboard for the base as I had some cuts where holding and clamping was going to be difficult. The thin hardboard allows me to staple the jig into place before making the cut. Thanks for the great tips!

Hi uncle, I love your videos, your tips and your sense of humour, keep up the good work! I'm learning woodworking and I came across a rather peculiar problem. I live in a rented flat size of a shoebox, the only way to do my DIY stuff and not to bother the Mrs is to do it on a flat roof of the neighbour. Which means no band saws, no table saws, using small battery tools and handy jigs and guides. I love this triangle guide and I thought, this will be a very useful tool in my toolbox, handling many jobs in a clever way. I tend to do some careful planning on the computer before I make the first cut, itt helps me to troubleshoot the idea before I buy something I don't need or even worse, finding flaws in the design before wasting materials. I made the plan for this jig, wanted to measure the height of the aluminium fence that fits under the motor of the saw aaaaaand I realised that my saw is a lefty. To me, this feels natural, and I know, most worm drive and battery circular saws are lefties, but this jig is righty. The obvious modification to this project is to flip it left to right, but it creates another problem: only the slim side of the shoe is on the jig, the body is not really supported. Does anybody have a good jig design to do quick right angle cuts with lefty saws?
@diyforknuckleheads
@diyforknuckleheads 3 жыл бұрын
Tricky one mate but personally, l don't have a real problem with only the slim side being on the good piece. A firm grip on the saw and with pressure applied to the guide it works for me basically 100% of the time. 👍😁🇦🇺

@@diyforknuckleheads To be honest, it's my limitations, namely the tiny flat (no power/water in the garage) and the budget that's making the decisions for me. I'll definitely discover my options, but for now this is what I have to make things work. Aaaaaand it did work, I designed a lefty jig for this scenario. I admit, it's bulkier, but can do 90/75/60/45/30/15 degree cuts. I'm making a crosscut jig after this and a little extra feature for the first is on the way, to cut keyed mitres for frames. I'll link photos if you're interested. :) The next big project will be a drawer chest with shelving, this is why I need the jigs BTW. (I'm learning woodworking, I'm learning 3D CAD design, designing my tools and I'm 48. Better late than never… :D But so much fun and definitely rewarding.)
