Two things I use, mitre box and clamp to lock it and make it straight. I also use a hack saw with a carbon cutting blade. Bike tool manufacturer park tool has these blades for cutting carbon bike parts (handlebars, steer tubes and seat posts). Makes a clean perfect cut on carbon sticks

I never knew that the end of a hockey stick has a attachable/detachable end. Always learned something new when I watch the pregame show.

It used to be a piece of wood glued in and would need a blow torch to remove-much like you use to adjust the curve on a blade.

Great episode guys! You are so much better than Hockey Night in Canada because of your comedy approach (Don Cherry was the best, but he is now history and does podcasts on KZfaq instead). Brodie, also get Brownie to bring in an antique wooden stick so you can see the difference 4 times more weight makes. Supposedly last players in NHL to use wooden stick were Paul Stasny as forward, Adrian Aucoin as defence or Marc-Andre Fleury in net. Here is a fact for you: Bauer Nexus Geo - 105 active NHL players = most popular composite stick this year. No one uses wood any more, will they return or go extinct in hockey? Another tradition lost, composite sticks also break too easy.

You monster. (Seriously, though, for anyone reading this - in case you're tempted, don't use duct tape. If in doubt and you can only get one kind of tape, white cloth tape can work on blade, butt end, and socks. Cloth tape is ideal for the butt end anyways, though some people like to use grip tape instead, I think. For the blade, many people prefer a black friction tape which is a cloth tape with a small amount of adhesive applied on it at the factory. When people refer to "black tape" in hockey, this is what they mean. It's really nice for stick handling, but I've heard some people prefer regular cloth tape because it feels like it slaps a little harder (but, ultimately, I don't think it makes that much of a difference). NEVER USE FRICTION TAPE ON YOUR BUTT END. IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR GLOVE PALMS. For the socks, most NHL players like to use a polyurethane tape. I prefer cloth tape myself, but the important thing is that it stays in place yet won't leave a residue when you remove it from your socks.)

Definitely not.. u can go as short or as tall as you like.. I tried to go longer for short power but the puck handling was just not the same.

The stick doesn't get "stiffer" when you cut it down. The flex is the same. You lose leverage with a shorter stick, so it is more difficult to flex. But, a cut down 75 flex stick is still a 75 flex stick. Flex is determined by how much force (in pounds) it takes to bend a stick 1 inch that has a 60" shaft. Also, if you cut too much off, you *can* add back length by using an extended end plug. They make them in 1", 3" and 5" sizes for exactly this purpose.
@10Bonk16
@10Bonk16 Жыл бұрын
If you cut the stick, the flex changes and will now require more force to bend the stick 1". Most retail sticks include a guide on the top of the shaft marking how much flex will be impacted by the cut. Typically it's about 3-4 flex/inch cut. So your 75 flex, will now be closer to a 80, as in it will now require ~80lbs to flex 1".

The shorter u cut it the stiffer it get rookie ...... dont say nothing else please otherwise us that know will think your just delusional

@@markwhite6719 someone who thinks cutting a few inches off a stick fundamentally changes the nature of the materials that stick is constructed with which gives it a specific flex ... might be the one that is delusional. You're arguing against physics. As I said, when you change the length of a stick, your ability to impart leverage (mechanical property) is what changes. But, the sticks ability to flex (physical property) is the same. To put it another way, while the stick's actual ability to flex at a given rate (actual flex) is unchanged, your perception of how hard it is to flex (perceived flex) is what changes.

@@mhicaoidh1 You don't lose leverage with a shorter stick, you GAIN leverage as the puck is closer to your body at impact, and more force can be applied down towards the ice with your bottom hand. Ovechkin uses a stick 3-4 inches below his chin and has arguably the best one-timer in the history of the game. Try taking a one-timer/slap shot with a cut to your nose on skates and then try it again with a stick cut a few inches below your chin.
@mhicaoidh1
@mhicaoidh1 Жыл бұрын
@@j.pimental3345 you're talking about leverage on the puck. Yes. You gain leverage on the puck with a shorter stick. If your assertion were true, in context of this discussion, then cutting down a stick would make it easier (more leverage) to flex than harder (due to less leverage). We know this isn't the case. But, we're talking about leverage on the stick (not the stick's leverage on the puck) ... or the ability to load energy into the stick. You lose leverage with imparting force on the stick. This loss of leverage is what creates the perception that the stick is "stiffer" even though the flex of the stick hasn't changed. You're also using a super human as an example. Ovi is stronger and more skilled than both of us combined. What he does with his stick clearly works for him, but I doubt many would have his success, and most would struggle to be average with the way he sets his up. Frankly, otherwise everyone NHLer would be doing what he does ... but they aren't.
