I started decluttering when a youtuber mentioned about if i want my children to deal with my stuff after I'm gone. I helped my mom downsize her stuff when she had to move to a smaller place shortly after she inherited her grandmother and parent's stuff after their passing. It was a lot of work that i don't want to put my children through.

My neighbor passed and her daughter asked me to come in and see what of hers I would like. I saw all the dirty dishes in the sink and she was stressed to clean before the auction. I vowed to not leave dishes for my family as losing someone is stressful enough.

I had been trying to declutter 5 years ago. I loved conmarie method for folding and presenting my positions also the house/object energy principle. It wasn’t until I did Swedish death cleaning. Taking me about 2 weeks of anguish, sobbing, then! Some wonderful acceptance of life’s fragility and that every day should be made the most of. It was like dying before dying , very zen. I think one of the fear of death is not having things sorted before you die. I’m 52 and now feel that that worry is gone (as far as possessions go) I’m now going to get a will sorted soon, life insurance (I have more money for this now I’m not buying so much). It’s not actually depressing atall. Kind of like tidying at the end of the day to set yourself up for a good morning. Instead clearing up your end of life stuff so you can enjoy the morning of the rest of your life. I couldn’t have done it without my hero KZfaqrs like yourself. I had put you on with me while I did it and it wasn’t such a lonely experience. I also got rid of so many things I did like , no regrets , theyve been replaced by open space , but as I let those things go. I don’t want to fill the spaces that were created by sacrificing those items- with anything else unless I NEED it. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. I’ve addressed with my children not to feel any guilt when I go. Don’t keep any of my things because if guilt. I gave them permission to let it ALL go if they wanted to. Swedish death cleaning made me comfortable to have these conversations. As I was so matter of fact about it , my children , uneasy at first, were then able to talk with me in the same way. A big realisation of this method was that I could have picked up a world full of different items over my life- I would have placed importance on ANTHING I’d picked up. Every item could’ve been different and I’d still think it was important. This helped me to see that NO posession need to be thought of as that important! Our lives are important-THATS what needs to be elevetated to the front of important. I’ve become more generous and more valuing of my wonderful friends and family (they really are) I make effort to show them now- I have more time to do that, more brain to listen to their needs , more money to take them to lunch… anyway. Thanks for helping to truly change my life. I think I’ve listened to most of your vids and thought. If a nurse with a big family can do -I must be able to. You are an inspiration for change. Thankyou 🤩✌️✨

I didn’t want to deal with admitting that the stuff I saved wasn’t making me happy. I thought I was celebrating my youth by saving it all. I realized that I was holding onto bad memories of my troubled childhood. I felt sad and a bit depressed when I let it go, but I had to admit how it made me feel and the memories they brought back. I have emptied six bins of ten and culled the rest. I feel a little better, but I’m really happy to see only four bins in the garage. 😊

My home decluttering is still "in progress", but one of the best things I think I've done is a box a week to Goodwill (and a bag of clothes in the beginning). As i went around my house I would just throw all sorts of things that had no meaning or use to me in the box. Watching your videos and other Minimalist/decluttering videos help to keep me motivated as I go. :)

Climbing a mountain from the steep side😂. Guess what? My clean laundry baskets or folded clean clothes on the side of the room it is what I call THE MOUNTAIN because is the last effort of the day, sometimes is taller then me, and it takes energy time and precision not to make it fall omg. Call me crazy I still after mone then 10 years in the same home nobody else understands that we should sort out the clothes right after the laundry room, instead everyone brings it to MY room so that I will be the one folding. I hate it and socks get lost all the time

I love cleaning, organizing, order and am getting closer to my goal, which is loving coming home to my apartment that is exactly the way I want it. Many, many years ago before husband and children, I had an apartment that was exactly what I lived. Now that my children are grown and I am a widow, little by little it us getting there. Thanks for this video, you know what you are talking about. Enjoyed listening so much. ❤️

Personally I really liked Kon Marie, although I did adapt it to suit my needs. For instance, when dealing with clothes I split them up into their own categories so that there was less to deal with. Having limited energy due to health reasons this worked better for me. As an example I did underwear, which included, for me, socks and tights. Then skirts, Ts, cardigans etc. You get the picture. I do my best to store everything by category within the room it’s in, or if it makes more sense to me, store it where it will be used. My lint remover is kept in my drawer with my knitwear jumpers. And although my hairdryer is an electrical item I keep it in a basket with other items I will use when I’m drying my hair such as styling products. However, all my charger cables and headphones/ear buds are all in a tub together. So it is an adaptable method. I also think that a lot of people misinterpret “spark joy”. It may not always be the appearance or sentimental value that sparks joy. Maybe a hammer or a pair of wellingtons don’t spark joy in the traditional sense but they do because they are really useful things that you are glad you’ve got. However I’m still finding tips and hints from other sources, and even though I’ve never been much of a hoarder I’m still finding the information valuable in helping me to be decisive about what I REALLY want in my life. Loving your videos by the way xx

I love your kitties. You should show them more. I have stuff that I might use, and with the terrible inflation, I feel like if I let them go, I might not have the ability to re-buy them. I have gotten rid of stuff in the past that you would think I would never need or use and that ended up being stuff I needed to replace so I have gotten burned and seem to be at a stand still with stuff that "could" be used in the future.

I think I keep things because I never got much of anything growing up. My dad had no money, after his workweek so we just had the basics. So I also know, the childhood things I kept, and left what I had at home, my step mom and dad tossed out 😢. I know my ADHD ( not diagnosed) but have every symptom, makes it very hard, but why?

Shoe sizes definitely change as toy age. I found this out the hard way. I’m 29 and I used to wear a 7.5 but if they didn’t have it I always opted for a 7. Now when I try to fit into a 7 I’m in so much physical pain and sometimes I can’t even get my foot in at all. Now I’m an 8 and can wear 7.5-8.5 depending on the store but I primarily buy 8. I’m oddly the only female in the family who has had their foot grow. My older sister is still the same. I have the biggest foot size too. My mom is 6-6.5, my sister is 7-7.5, and I’m an 8. I recently went through all of my shoes and couldn’t fit into a single pair of heels. I ended up having to declutter over half of my shoes since the only things I could wear were tennis shoes and slippers which were recent buys. I now have to go out and buy a new pair of heels for my occasional dressy event.
