My grandma who was a hoarder (raised during the Depression, mother died shortly after her birth and was adopted by a neighbor - so deep reasons for the hoarding) used to give me bags and boxes of things in her latter years. I would gladly take it as she meant it as a blessing, then would take it right to donation or dumpster depending on what it was. She didn't know, and didn't need to know. How as a minimalist (or even as a decent human) we deal with others and stuff is very individual. For some we may need to set boundries, for others we just warmly love them where they're at.

Helping other family members declutter might start with reorganizing some of their stuff to make it easier for them to find their stuff. Later they might be willing to let go of stuff they realize they haven’t used or need.

Possibly, but people often don't want their stuff touched without permission. I'd be seeking permission first.

It has to be a habit change, which is hard in the beginning but will so much easier with repetition and practice over time!!! I used to have a very full home bordering on hoarding. It had nothing to do with the size of it. I just felt I might need the stuff later. I did not put anything out. i was not able to part with stuff or say no to free stuff eg from my parents. Since then I lived in tiny appartments (25 sqf) and today in an bigger apartment, and it still does not matter the size or degree of organisation. I say no at my flats entrance eg to mail and paper clutter. i say no to relatives or friends regarding free stuff and , very importantly, I say no to stuff which does not serve me anymore because i dont use it. Still, when I declutter 1-2 times a year, I find superflous stuff (I also live not alone). It just is a habit to mantained to not delay decisions by not saying no and also to have a structure to evaluate from time to time and asking: Do I need it? Does it serve me? Would i buy it right now? Or does it just take up space and weigh me down? Its a huge adjustment in the beginning like any behaviour change but it is doable and if u get the hang of it, it frees up so much energie, mental capacity, etc. Cleaning is so much easier, mantaining the home is so much easier, and dealing with recovery (and helpers) after surgeries, which i need to have every couple of years is also so much easier. That is so worth so much worth than any monetary oder sentimental value stuff could ever have.

When my mother -in-law passed she had beautiful antique’s. The kids picked what they wanted, the only thing I asked them, if up the road you no longer want it just ask your siblings if the want it. If not do not hold on to something you no longer want. Someone else will love it.

Hi, as a freezing lover (I know it sounds strange :P ) I would love to know what you use whole frozen tomatoes and black bananas for. I never do those things and I am curious.

Oooh! I’m going to defrost the tomatoes (then they’re easier to skin) to can them. The frozen bananas are for banana bread

Buy only fruit/veggies/egg and milk. There's enough in your freezers to last 2 months.

Exactly what I was thinking! Robyn, I can't imagine ever having this much food! How in the world do you know what you have? I would never have to "clean out my freezer" and I was so curious when I heard you say you were doing that. I date everything with a sharpie when it goes in the freezer. I rotate. I am shocked you have this much in your freezer (not a judgement!) I guess we never see inside other people's freezer, so maybe you would be shocked at the level in mine. I guess my extra stuff is visual and yours is hidden? I didn't see how much you got rid of; it still looked so full when you were done. No way I could manage that much inventory. You could do a challenge and only buy milk and bread (no, I saw you had frozen bread) and see how long you can eat from your freezer. Thanks for the video... I'm putting away Christmas decorations with you! Love you!
