AI movement is way too inconsistent to defend properly even if you can read the opponents decision. Some times they are static allowing opposition players run past. The game is way too annoying to enjoy.

Spam team press. Always keep a eye on what ur back line is formed. By spamming team press you move defenders that are just standing around. However, don’t do it too much because you can end up moving them out of position. Play around with it, you have more control over ur defense than you realize.

Fut champs yesterday balls bounce off the player and he goes one on one after I take the ball. It don't happen once but everytime. Dont know if people are doing a cheat code or what

If I leave my defence to the AI they do nothing and literally don't move. My opponent put the controller down today and his defenders won the ball and shielded it then tried to win it again when I got it back. He wasn't even playing. What am I missing here?? Is there a setting I need to have on. Also every player I pass to the opponent has a swarm of his players waiting and to win any loose balls. My guys stand off and are nowhere near. I'm like wth is going on here. This game is not enjoyable

something i figured out from doing 2nd man press is if you hit the button twice and hold, all surrounding players will move to mark the opponents players. Has saved me a ton on breakaways where they're looking to switch the field or play a long ball.

Really good opening. My weakness is I Must win the ball every opportunity at all costs leaving huge gaps in the back. Patient play is something I struggle with because I feel like I'm giving too much space and they will score.

Solid advice, but the amount of times the game will rebound my tackles and interceptions back to the other player is insane, some games I'll get 1 or 2 rebounds and my opponent will take every other one. It feels like the game is giving them every opportunity to score and you have to weather the storm sometimes because no matter what you do, they are getting a goal.

So many times it is easy to ready the opponent and go for the right movement, the problem is that the game itself have many issues to stop you defending such as delay in action ( although the network connection is perfect ), the ball just go through my players 😂, and the ball keep rebounding from my players to the opponent players. I can’t do anything with these problems and in every weekend league I loose at least 3-4 games because of this issues.

One great tip on defending I use is taking my finger off and on R1 so as to better know which direction to defend from.

for some reason i concede an early goal in probably like 8/10 matches lately and sometimes a second early goal and then i start playing well and often dont concede any more goals and win or atleast get back into the game and come close to winning, i hate that the game allows timewasting, its not like a 90 minute match in real life where time wasting is obviously far less of a problem, if im behind and my opponent realises i look dangerous so often they will just throw all morals out the window and just time waste as much as possible

I’m going to make a video guide on my tactics, but to be abit boring, i don’t really think the formation matters that much. These ”ideas” could theoratically be applied no matter how you set-up your teams.

As a way to keep FIFa fresh for me, and while I'm not sure if i'll be making guides on them as the 3-5-2 is main formation, i'll be trying out different formations and tactics to find a way on how to set them up in a way that fits my playstyle. Just Fyi, I you defend two buttons controller is very OP. I am sharing this because most players online they use two buttons. all fifa 23 I've been playing two buttons because it just tackles for you. division 1 player here got to elite.

I found it useful if I move my player close to attacker and instead of tackling I let the ai take control. It'll position him better and might do the tackle when pressing pressure.

I play Pro clubs aswell! I feel almost all are applicable. The principels for defending are still the same whether you’re playing FUT, Pro clubs or real football. (Except 2nd man press maybe, that’s more FUT).

I don’t tbh, I think attackers are more interchangeable than defenders. But your reading of game matters more in defence than which players you’re using. Where as in attack the feel of the player matter more.

How do you trigger that burst of pace with a CB? Normal sprint does not feel the same. Sometimes i press A on the xbox controller and then B to tackle..is it A?

It's the normal sprint. but the burst is going from timing normal run into sprinting. And i believe it's B on the Xbox controller.

I’ve never really struggled against cutbacks. It’s easier to predict. You can always leave the middle free but that’s infinitly more dangerous. Guidiing them out then pressing (2nd man or team press) is a good way to force them into a tough spot.

Didn’t see the response, sorry about that. I have it as a preset, but i rarely use it. It’s very similar to the 3-5-2 if you have offensive fullback. Biggest difference is the FB are further back and the midfield is higher up (2 CM instead of 2 CDMS). So it depends if you attack more with your midfield or wide players. For me the 3-5-2 works better.

Does anyone know how to block off running attackers with CBs or CDMs while cutting passing lanes manually with another player? My CBs tend to let attacking players run through cos they don't have the cursors

Can’t really make AI follow a run, have to do it yourself and use team press (double tap 2nd man press and hold) for your players to cut passing lanes instead of pressing.

Most falls down to pre-emptive movement. I try to move early and anticipate situations which make my players seem faster. I think it falls down to pro-active defending instead of re-active.

People are easy to win against because they have no clue on how to properly defend. Just knowing what you've explain would make people step from div 8 to 4, but people focus so much on winning the ball and pacey counter attack they get wrecked if they match anyone with any decent defensive vision. They might succeed once or twice, but it's already down 4-0 😅

Bro. I keep coming to your guides but there is no little improvement I can make to my gameplay. The only matches that I win is whoever worse than me. Wherever the matches with an opponent at the same level with me, I'm struggling so hard. Maybe time to retire from this game. This is the only game that I cannot improve my gamplay.

Depends on where you’re measuring success. Playing against someone of equal skill will always be hard (no matter if you’re div 10 or topp 200). Look at maybe where excatly do you struggle (what’s happening when you lose the ball, what are you doing when your opponent creates, etc)

There isn’t a specific way of using L2, it’s just easier to follow while defending when using it instead of running around normally. The main point is good movement, L2 just solidifies it.

I Play ANY for my pro clubs team lmao. I am the whole back line. Theres only one person in my team who actually sees the amazing tackles i make; Ruben Dias; Virgil Van Dijk type tackles; can even slip a Pepe or Ramos tackle in there. The teams always like ; Break his Ankles; Foul Him; lmao. Nah i can get the ball back without getting a Card.

I swear im playing a completely different version of fifa 23 to the pro players.. my team are slow and lazy and cba to make runs even with a half decent team 🤦‍♂️😂
