@@common_sense_cloud cool, how did you auth you git, am trying to clone but the recent auth step is outdated
@common_sense_cloud Жыл бұрын
In the VM, I was using a public repo I believe so I didn't need to authenticate to GitHub to clone the repo. If you did want to clone a private repo you'd probably need to use a GitHub personal access token, put it in Google secrets manager, then you can use gcloud CLI commands to get it from secrets manager inside of your VM. Or of course you could just set it manually as an environment variable or put it in the machines git config, but security wise that's not the greatest thing to do. You'll need the "repo" scope selected on the GitHub PAT to clone.

@@common_sense_cloud i noticed you didnt build your app, mine is build & am wondering how do i run it - will the nohup command still be suitable here?
@common_sense_cloud Жыл бұрын
You should be able to run any package.json script with nohup, in my case I'm not sure if this app had a build script, so I just ran the default npm start as an example. This is more of a "how stuff works" video than a production ready environment, but I can and will make a video on how to deploy this same application in a more production ready format soon!

Great! How or where do I get my mongo uri?
@common_sense_cloud Жыл бұрын
www.mongodb.com/docs/v2.2/reference/connection-string/ This is where the mongo URI is from, in this case we're running mongodb on localhost on the machine, so you'd fill in the "host" parameter in those docs as localhost or 127.0.0.1 Username and password are optional (but recommended) if you're not using auth on mongodb. And then port number is just the default mongo port.
