Design a Model Train Layout with SCARM - (Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeller) - Basic Introduction to Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software.
About this Channel - My name is George, and I would like to welcome you to my O Scale Layout! I am a Model Train Enthusiast, Scale Modeler, Builder.
This channel is dedicated to sharing my fine scale layout, and Lionel O Gauge Trains with you. I designed & built this complex layout with the purpose of simultaneously running as many trains as possible as well as realistic train operations.
Fun Fact: I was part of the construction management team during the construction of a train platform, adjoining train tracks and switches in real life. I share this experience in one of my videos!
I enjoy operating the layout and making really cool train videos to share with you.
Please Subscribe to my channel to view all of the upcoming videos!

Hi George, I appreciate the step by step instructions! Scarm is a really great tool! I don't have a lot of pc smart, so watching the video and going thru the steps with you made it 100% better. Big thanks! Enjoy your videos, and love your layout.

I'm trying!!!! I spent way too much time designing and building my current, and previous 2 layouts without really sharing them. I should have made videos and shared them from the start! I am having fun making these videos, and I really enjoy & appreciate all the support!!! It makes it all worth it.

Great video! I only started watching train videos last week, and my basic question has always been, how in the heck do they design and put these H0 layouts together - or how did they plan it all out. Well you’ve answered the most basic question in how they started. Excited there is CAD level software available.

Thank you very much! I sincerely appreciate it, and I am glad that you enjoyed this video. I will soon make a second follow up video showing additional features of this CAD software program (SCARM). There are many types of track designs out there, and this software allows you to design what works best for your layout. Thank you for watching my channel!

I stumbled across your video. I wish I had found this years ago, before I mastered SCARM by trial and error. It would have been so helpful. Couple of expert tips - if you want to move a piece, or multiple pieces, just highlight the track piece(s) and then hold down the CTRL key and then click on the piece and drag. Much faster than all those menu clicks! When creating your baseboard or polygon shapes (figures menu), rather than click all the points using the left mouse button, use the RIGHT one on the last point and it will automatically close the baseboard or figure without adding an extra point. (This one took me a while to figure out on my own.) So, if you're making a square, LEFT click the first corner, the 2nd corner, the 3rd corner, BUT, for the last corner, RIGHT click the 4th corner and it will make the 4th and 1st connect automatically. This also works with other shapes - just use the right button for the last point.

Hi Chad, welcome to my channel! Thank you for your wonderful comments and tips! I realize there is almost always more than one way to accomplish certain tasks, and I certainly appreciate your feedback. Ultimately, I learned SCARM on my own as well, and I wanted to take a moment to help others as best as I could. I am working on a follow up video and will definitely incorporate your helpful tips in the next tutorial. Thank you for Subscribing to my channel watching my videos, I really appreciate it!! 😀

I'm trying to make a U shaped table first then fit a layout to the table. How do I make a (square) U shape?
@trainwild
@trainwild 11 ай бұрын
Hi, To make a U shaped layout, one of the best methods is to make loops at each end of the U. This way the train can return to the layout and run on an endless loop. The track size of each loop is determined by the size of you table. For example, "O27" should be used for smaller ends, and if you have more room then just use a larger diameter track suck as O45, O54, O63 etc. Good luck!
