Hi! That's a great question. I would start by focusing on the core value that a graphic designer brings to the table, which, in my opinion, is visually communicating an idea or a message. With that in mind, the communication taking place is between human to human, not machine to machine or machine to human, so there will always be a need for a human to supervise that the message is being conveyed successfully with that human touch. It's almost like the role of the designer becomes a sort of editor or creative director. As far as UI goes, I believe that designers will become more valuable at the beginning of the process, setting the tone and the creative direction for a particular project (essentially defining the problem). The part that I think will get automated is the more redundant asset making that happens afterward. However, the aesthetic definition, the brand direction, the use cases you're trying to tackle-all of those things will still require a human touch because the audience is a human being. So, when creating your case studies, you can develop and hone those skills because I think that's what will make you stand out among other designers potentially focusing solely on visual design. Now, visual design is still important since AI hasn't completely evolved to the point of replacing designers, so still show what you can do and what your awesome 20 years of experience have taught you.
