I've been using Inkscape to create sublimated designs, and have been using the document setting to size out to my 8.5x11 paper - then saving as a PDF in order to print. With your video, I now know how to print directly to my printer with my design sized however I would like it!! Thanks!! Great video. Great instructor. Thinking I'll go check out the rainbow background as well. Looking forward to the next video.

if you hit ctrl and D together, you can duplicate each design without added steps of copy/paste! The box you put your design (bounding box) in is changeable! create your design how you want, once done, ctrl and R will adjust the bounding box to the size of your design!!

When i downloaded thr Melany Font, it didn't save it to inkscape. Not sure how to fix that. Also when i click the text icon my cursor is so small i cant see my writing. When i try to enlarge the font size it doesn't fix what i typed. Help!

You need to install the font for all users. Also be sure your program has been closed and reopened in order for the font to appear. As for the sizing issue you can zoom in on the screen. I would be you are really zoomed out. Hold ctrl on your keyboard and use your mouse wheel to zoom in

I use Illustrator which is similar to Inkscape. I make SVG designs and I want to jazz them up and make them sublimation PNG designs. Is there a certain size I need to make my artboard or do I just make sure I save as 300 dpi. What color mode?

Great tutorial. If you didn’t use the offset would the text need to be below the paint stroke layer in order to print correctly? Or do you merge the layers so there is no color beneath the text? I hope that makes sense. I’m thinking if the design has multiple layers when you mirror it and print that the bottom layer (paint strokes) becomes the top layer when heat pressed and covers up the text.

No you don’t need to merge anything the text needs to be on top regardless of mirroring or not if you put it behind it you won’t see ti

You need to make sure you have made them a path and then ungroup and union the letters if you don’t union you may not get the offset correctly

Can you sublimate any color picture? I downloaded some St. Patrick's pictures from Etsy and printed them out on my sublimation printer with the specialty paper. But when I went to apply the prints to my 95% polyester shirts, not all the ink transferred over. I have a lot of light areas. I am using Printer-Jack inks with a 12x10 Cricut Heat Press. It was recommended I press at 375 for 35 seconds. I have ruined at least 5 shirts so far and still don't have any good ones. I used a infra-red heat gun on my heat press and the temp was different in every corner and center. Nothing close to 400. I made my first 2 shirts without any problems. But not I am having all kinds of problems and don't know where to turn or who to ask. My heat press was only 2 months old. I sent it back. Any suggestions? Thanks

For shirts it’s 60 seconds at 400 so you are likely not heating it enough and the cricut easy press is hard to get a full even press with. Make sure to use a pressing pillow and you may need to adjust your printer settings

You mentioned that you use Inkscape rather than Design Space and it was due to getting a larger design on a page (from my understanding). Is this the same for Silhouette Studio? Inkscape looks so similar to Studio, that I wondered if I could just stick to what I’m used to (I’ve used Studio for some time, but new to sublimation).

You can absolutely create your own designs. And you can also take designs you draw in real life and put them into inkscape. If you scan them to your computer and then import to inkscape there are lots of ways to turn that design into all kind of usable files! It’s not something I do since I legit can’t draw my way out of a paper bag but if you want to do something like this you simply scan it import it and then size it!

I save in both formats because I sell but if all you want to do is print the PNG is the way to go. That is going to be the most common file for using with sublimation and you are going to get a high quality image using the PNG format.

I never recommend design space for printing sublimation. The colors are not right, you are limited to print size, you lose a lot of quality to your prints. Its not a program for sublimation.
