Yes-after watching your video is sounds like I’ve got hard water buildup with possible hydral fatigue and an oily scalp combined with medium to high porosity…..? Although I havnt bleached my hair in 4 yrs & most of it has been cut off, I am now re entering the color world to cover my grays with Goldwell Elumen, (semi permanent). I spent 2 years consistently in the ocean followed by 2 years of never being in the ocean. There’s so many variables to consider, I believe the chart would be very helpful.

Oh my goodness, I'm 2 months into my transition from straight to 2a/2b hair and it's such a struggle. My hair is v fine so I've been using the Ouidad moisture shampoo and conditioner for loose waves. But now my hair feels overly soft and limp. I'm still not 100% sure I can use Curlsmith products with my hair, but I'm guessing this is moisture overload. I'll try your tips and see what happens. You've been a lifesaver so far, I'm LOVING these instructional videos. Thank you!!

Great information! I struggle with frizz and retaining moisture. I started using Curl Smith products a few months ago and love how they help! It was from one of your videos that I decided to try this brand, thank you! For the first time since I have gone curly (2 1/2 years) that I can do little or no refresh because the clumps stay together with little frizz and it still looks shiny and fresh. I was getting frustrated about being unable to make it to day 2 because it was a helmet of frizz. This video was really helpful and I wish I had this when I was transitioning!

@tamarapace3036
@tamarapace3036 Жыл бұрын
@@samipreciado5937 it is a process that changes seasonally. I did use the whole line from shampoo and deep conditioner to stylers for my type of hair, low porosity, coarse, thick, mostly curly but multiple curl patterns. Don't get caught up on what works for someone else. Use trial and error and use enough of the product. I'm sorry I can't tell you what will work for Your curls and hair type. I don't need extra protein but you might. I do brush styling and make sure my frizzy parts get extra attention by finger coiling and a light spray of hairspray. No touch! Not until it's dry. Best of luck! Don't get discouraged 💖

Yes I'd like the map document. I seem to have dry hair with some frizz. Since I started following the curly method (about 8 months) I've only been happy with my hair one time. My hair is thick and coarse with 2b waves with a few ringlets here and there.

On washday, my hair feels perfect imo. It's soft but not too soft, is shiny and the waves have bounce. But after refreshing on day two with a spray or gel my hair gets so dull and dry and just feels hard. Perhaps I should just refresh with some water and not use products on top of the products that I used on washday

@Veronika Be I had the same issue bc my hair is fine. I use my refreshing products mixed in with water in a spray bottle. You have to tailor it to your personal needs, try a teaspoon in a 2 ounce spray bottle and add more product or water depending on your needs. I do it for both gel and styling cream depending on my needs that day, too much frizz I use gel. Too little moisture, I use cream, then use a light spray of my gel mixture on top of that. Make sure your gel has humectants, those polyquarts make all the difference and like Gena said, make sure your gel is water activated, as they will mix well with water.

Fabulous video, so much information packed in 26 minutes! I don’t know how you do it! My main problem is day three DRYNESS, frizz and tangling. The tangling is very bad. I’m about 18 months into the transition and my hair is long so it’s going to take a while. What I do notice is if you have damaged hair on your last 9 inches, it does affect your first 9 inches of newer growth, even though it is not damaged in the traditional way. It is affected bc it gets damaged by proxy. For example, if you have loads of tangles, even light pulling can damage new growth. So I can see why it takes so long for one’s hair to normalize. It’s not going to do that till a bit of time has passed after you cut off your last very damaged area. In the interim, I do notice that products that didn’t work for me in the beginning are working for me now, like the Featherlight Protein Crème, I disliked it at first but now I love it! Nothing takes away day 3 frizz like it does and also adds moisture. I use it in a spray bottle with water mixed in. I do this with many of my products for refreshing so as to incorporate water and not have buildup.

Thank you for this video! I've been thinking I have a protein issue (even though only one product I use has protein, and it's low on the ingredient list). However, after this video, I really think my hair is damaged even though I've mostly been following CGM for several years now. I have a tendency of skipping conditioner because I have very thin, very fine hair and it weighs it down. That said, I'm going to conduct an experiment I use a very light conditioner on wash days (2x/week). I believe (at least to start) I need a heat protectant for use with my diffuser. As always, great information, Gina!

My hair is definitely damaged. When I started to try wearing my hair wavy a couple months ago, I assumed I had healthy, virgin hair that is low porosity. As I experimented with refreshing by wetting my hair daily and scrunching, I noticed my waves just fell flat, especially at the bottom ends. My hair has been dull with lots of baby hairs sticking out, too, but I never realized why until I read about pH. I had been shapooing with Dr. Bronner's liquid castille soap for over a decade, not realizing the pH is 9 and that alkalinity strips hair of 18-MEA and opens the cuticles up to hygral fatigue with daily rewetting. Yikes! I am using Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve about monthly for about 30 minutes and then using The Strength products for protein. I am now learning about using coconut oils before shampooing to help prevent too much water from getting into the hair shaft and then shea butter after moisturizing to help lock in the moisture. I have not tried it yet, but it makes sense to try to keep the hair shaft from changing size so frequently and so much, and help prevent further breakage as it grows out. I get worried and confused about protein overload but I am glad you mentioned that that is pretty much only a problem if you use protein treatments, which I don't, so hopefully I am good with this routine for a while. I also have Curlsmith shine products for when I don't need as much rotein, but really don't know when to switch. Thank you for educating us through your personal hair journey. It's really great that you have so many situations documented as examples for us. I used to think hair is hair and unprocessed hair like mine is healthy as can be, but I am learning a lot!

This was a wonderful and very informative video. My hair is very healthy and pretty low porosity but fine and really fine around my hairline and in certain spots. I’m starting to think my issue with silky roots that can fall limp is due to that hair getting over moisturized because it’s finer than the rest so it’s easier to happen in that area. I’m gonna really need to think about this. 🤔

I go product free (sometimes I will add a light cream) often mainly because since I am retired I don't have to go places very often. I love doing this as my hair feels so soft and I get a break from stylers and the dryer. I usually air dry when I go product free. It is a trade-off b/c I will get more frizz and sooner. My hair thickness was very less as compared to previous year due to smoothening. To regain back my hair I started applying Cocoonion anti hair fall kit by littleeextra and it worked in boosting hair density and growth. I would advise if you apply it then always wash your hair by mixing shampoo with some water before using as it works much better in that way. Also when you apply oil then heat it a little and then apply. Apply it at least once or twice a week. Use neem wood comb while combing your hair and use scalp massager while hair cleansing to get remove pollution and dirt etc and it gives even super charged results.

@GenaMarie Жыл бұрын
I don't think heat will directly cause shedding. If anything it will just cause your hair to become dry and need deep conditioning more. Also the sun can damage the hair, salt water, chlorine, etc. Excessive shedding is due to an internal issue, usually.

I use the protein core shampoo from Curlsmith and following up with the Multitask conditioner. In fact I find I need to use the multitask conditioner every day as I need to damp down every day. I also use the double quench moisture every week just for more moisture. I was trying the Cantu avocado gel but am thinking that it is too drying for my hair. I have recently gone back to the curlsmith souffle. I realise this video was posted 12 months ago but was hoping you could advise me re my routine. Should I be trying a bond treatment or ??? Thanks.

Honestly just let the sweat dry! It's not harmful to our scalps, as long as we don't have buildup. Once your hair and scalp are actually dirty, then wash it. I refresh my hair like normal and then diffuse so it dries. I sometimes also use a foaming dry shampoo at the scalp.

Curlsmith says for high porosity hair (damaged hair) it can be used every 2-3 washes. So once a week seems too frequent but it depends on how often you wash your hair.

My hair breaks immediately when I stretch it, but it feels more damp and takes longer to dry than it used to. So I guess I both have dry hair and moisture overload???

Not sure but if it works why not? Maybe you can also look into making your own gel with flaxseeds: there are many tutorials on how to make this

Hi Gena, I am in desperate need of help with my hair. I believe I have serve hard water damage. All the signs you mentioned about hard water damage I have on top of color fading very quickly and red copper tones to my hair. This is happening to my whole family. After using one of the chelating shampoos that you mention how do you maintain your hair over the following weeks and how often do you wash with the chelating shampoos. Please help my hair is in a serve staste in my opinion.

I highly recommend fixing the hard water issue for long term hair health. Installing a water softener is the best investment and will save your appliances and other things in your home. If that is not an option like if you're renting or with budget, they do make hard water softener attachments for your showerhead that you have to add salt to reguluarly. A regular showerhead filter will not filter hard water, it need to have salt to soften it. In terms of the chelating shampoo, I would use it a couple times a month.

@@GenaMarie Thank You so much for your response. I just moved into a new home and installed a water softner with filtration on our whole home about 5 months ago. I believe the Hard water damage came from the previous state I lived in I never new how bad Hard water could damage hair until I started researching that's why we installed a system in our new home.

@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie Жыл бұрын
It’s just depends. If you have very damaged hair your hair can benefit from both. I use Olaplex and I also use deep conditioners with protein once a month or so. If your hair is healthy you don’t need much protein, just some here and there for maintenance

Perhaps dry the Curlsmith Detox kit if you haven't already. It's designed to balance your scalp's microbiome, which can get thrown off and cause imbalances

Hello! I have curly hair just like you and recently started loosing hair. I thought I had protein overload because how how my hair looked and feels as I know i over did coconut oil in my hair. after 3 weeks of using a clarifying shampoo once a week i don’t really see results. what should i try or what should i do? thank you!

My hair hates coconut oil as well + I’m dealing with hair shed + protein overload, how much hair are you losing? Chunks/a lot? Or just a little more shed than usual? Sometimes people shed more with the seasons, stress or from protein. I would try deep conditioning or rosemary rinses. Olive oil works good for me so I just mix conditioner and olive oil and put it all over my hair with a disposable shower cap.

@@gracedottavi3174 Hello, Im just shedding more than usual not chunks. Thank you so much for the advice I would definitely try that. How many times a week do you mix olive oil with you’re conditioner?

@@emily10056 - I pretty much wash my hair two times a week but I deep condition as needed. I microwave olive oil for like 15 seconds (careful, it might be hot) and I just put it all over with conditioner. That personally always worked for my hair. I have low porosity. Just rub it all over scalp with finger tips. Sounds like you just need moisture, if the clarifying is too much it’ll just dry you out. Avoid all protein or coconut oil and even aloe and jojoba oil is protein. Insane I know.

@@gracedottavi3174 Thank you so much for the help and advice! I will definitely try doing that. And I personally love the Gaurnier Shampoo and Conditioner but stopped using it and was using the clarifying shampoo and conditioner from this one brand. Should I go back to Gaurnier or is there a specific hair shampoo and conditioner to mix with the olive oil?

@@emily10056 - Of course glad to help. If the Garnier works then go back to that. The olive oil and conditioner is a DIY deep conditioning mask, that you do on your wash days. Then just jump in and wash your hair as you would. Or just avoid the coconut oil and use the Garnier and it’ll start coming back.

PLEASE HELP 🙏 I cannot work out what's happening to my hair I am freaking out, I cut out proiten for months and started washing my hair every morning and use a deep conditioning treatment its winter here so took abit to dry , I feel I medium porosity hair. Almost overnight my hair texture changed. My hair is so soft and light, feels finer but doesn't look it and fluffy my curls have dropped like I haven't noticed a massive shed either. It's currently been over a week I have tried ACV rinse and protien treatments My curl pattern has slowly returned not as bouncy but when it dried it drops and my hair just feels so light my hair tie slips down and it doesn't hold a style I am soo scared please any guidance would be appreciated 🙏 😔😢

Probably way too late for an answer. But does anyone know how she has video representation of the “type” of symptoms she is explaining? Did she do her hair “wrong” on purpose for the video? Did she have videos from her “journey” that she was able to pull from? All of the examples she gave were her, right?
