If only I’d have had this advice yesterday! I’ve not been doing “curly girl” for very long (I’m more wavy than curly) and I wrongly did a protein mask 2 days ago, thinking it would improve things! Oh dear, that’s all I can say! Earlier today I clarified and deeply moisturised, it seems to have helped somewhat. But now, I’m glad I have such help from your good self, for future reference! I just hope it doesn’t happen again anytime soon! I was a wet webby mess, for a while! This oil would’ve helped immensely! Best wishes from England!

This is such a great idea! Thank you for your videos. I’m on month 6 learning about wavy/curly hair. I’m growing out a very short pixie. My hair now is about 5 inches long in my longest parts. It’s tough going through the grow out stage, but I have no other choice and am just trying not to obsess about the growth. I’m working on enjoying the journey. Thank you for your videos. I pre-poo with good ol', straight up Castor Oil! I even massage onto my scalp. I get it on my lengths too..i scrunch it gently into slightly damp hair n leave it 30 mins to an hour before showering...sometimes i put it in the night before if i wanna deal with the heaviness overnight. The castor oil makes my hair grow faster and instantly thicker which equates to more volume for me. Pre-poo ftw!!!! Love at you, Court!

Courtney, I’m way off topic here but I must thank you for sharing your heart in your testimony and your health. Thank you for saying “fearfully and wonderfully made” several times, I know God is trying to get through my thick head and hard heart. So I need to comment on those two other videos. I happened to see your video about your new styling technique. I subscribed and decided to go back and binge watch videos......I saw you have RA, I do as well. Then I saw the testimony video! O gracious is God nudging me. I have had 13 surgeries since 2011, and I deal with that overwhelming fatigue you spoke of and others would comment on how they are encouraged by how I lean on God and trust Him, and have peace. But Courtney, I’ve been so angry since last November. I’m so upset because I need two more surgeries, in fact as I write this I already recovered from one in February. But, the Lord used your voice to get to my hard angry heart. I too am I follower of Jesus and love Him, but I’ve been so angry because of my health, and inability to do the very things he gifted me to do! Why give me these passions and gifts if he was going to make it nearly impossible to do these things? I stopped my daily morning quiet times, no more small groups, because writing is hard keeping my prayer journal was also shelved. But I feel God tugging at me, and your testimony just hit me very personally. I just wanted to share this with you. Sorry I’m not commenting on protein and moisture balance. Truthfully, I do pretty well with that. I’ve been fortunate in that way. Love your methods, I’ve been trying more in shower styling while sitting on my shower bench. When my hair is soaking wet I do notice juicier curls. Thank you dear sister!

Hey friend ❤I struggled with anger last year (still do at times), since my body doesn’t cooperate with my brain and what I want to do and feel like I should* be able to do. I’ve struggled with that feeling of why did God gift me certain gifts and abilities, if I can’t use them much anymore too. This Easter though, I felt a deep sense of belonging (finally), felt Jesus or Holy Spirit whispering to me that he understands every ounce of pain I feel on a daily basis. And my heart broke, realizing when he died, he covered every ounce of pain I would personally endure. Not just our sins. Idk if this makes sense to you or anyone. But if I can feel a tiny teensy bit of what he endured for me and all of us, that is a gift to be able to lean into Him more. I’ve been in denial about getting myself a shower bench. But since I can’t stand in the shower due to fatigue and muscle pain anymore, and consistently been sitting in the shower on a bath mat for the last 5 months, I need to start looking for one lol. Any suggestions of what is most comfortable, what isn’t, etc- I’d appreciate ❤

I love your videos! Thank you! Please try Curlisto Structura Lotion and Lotion Plus if you haven't already. From the "famous" Curlisto Salon in NYC. I purchase online at Beauty Store Depot or directly from the salon. I apply it to my 2a/2b really wet hair and scrunch with a soft cotton T-shirt. Don't touch till it's dry. I go to sleep like that and in the morning in either use a wide toothed comb or just shake it out and go. You can also diffuse if in a hurry. No frizz, and curls stay for several days. I would like a recommendation for a moisturizing curl refresher to spray on dry hair since my high porosity hair dries out very fast.

In my experience, some people don't need moisture OR protein treatments. I haven't decided if my hair is just the outlier or if people do moisture/protein treatments because they think they are supposed to (or because their favorite product line has treatments, so they assume it's needed). For the most part, people seem to say "it seems like me hair is better" or "I think it helped." I've never seen anyone track their hair and document a consistent pattern of responses to treatments.

I previously tried the Curlsmith bonding oil, and it did NOT agree with my hair. I used one pump to break the cast on my fine, normal to low porosity, shoulder-length 3B hair and it made it really stringy, greasy, and kind of crunchy. I tried it again with different products and got the same result, which sucks since I really wanted it to work for me. Would you say the shine oil performs similarly to the bond oil, just minus the bonding ingredients? I'd like to try it, but if it's going to do the same thing to my hair as the bond oil did, I'm not sure I want to waste the money on it. I currently use the Verb Ghost Oil or the Dae Prickly Pear Hair Oil (very similar products, but Dae smells amazing) to break my cast. They both contain silicones but I'm fine with the oil I use to break the cast having silicones since I'm using such a small amount of it about once a week, and I need to clarify about once a month anyway due to hard water. Never had a problem with them weighing my hair down or causing build-up with how I've been using them. However, I dunno if I'd want to use those as a pre-poo since I'd have to use quite a bit of it and that may load my hair up with silicone. So, should I try the shine oil or try to find a different oil to pre-poo with?

How would you recommend securing my hair for the night with my hair being about shoulder length and with layers so a half pineapple is the most that will work for pineapple-ING? Thank you!!
@SwavyCurlyCourtney
@SwavyCurlyCourtney Жыл бұрын
You could use little claw clips for the rest! So put your hair up in pineapple, then the rest you can gently clip up. Hopefully that makes sense!

Unfortunately, the layers are too short for that or else they would be at the place where my head lies on my pillow. I ended up trying to pull as many of the lower shorter layers as I could into a lower invisibobble and called it good enough. I used the Bonding Oil and would like to try the shine oil next time.

I studied biochem and I've often thought that the protein/moisture balance should really be more like the protein/water/oil balance since they are the main components of hair. Oil gets left out of the conversation! Thanks curlsmith for bringing it back! (Also as an aside, Courtney, be careful, this video comes across as a thinly veiled curlsmith ad. You don't want to compromise the huge trust we have in you!)

@@CJbrieflittlecandle the more I look into it, the more I like the idea of this oil. It's got nice small esters instead of big fatty acids (or silicones) and I think it will work great!Hopefully it hits iherb soon so I can get it in Aus! But if the video had been more like "I've been in touch with the curlsmith team and here's what they say and why I'm excited about it" I think it would have been way better.

Of course, but not every Oil is suitable. There are sealing oils and penetrating oils. You need penetrating ones like sunflower, olive or coconut oil.

I came across a very random video about this girl with really long hair (I'm talking down past the back of her knees) & how she washed her hair once a month & the lengthy process that was that one wash, & anyhow she swore by using amla oil (which does penetrate) prior to washing. So I found organic, cold pressed, unrefined amla oil, & started applying to my hair 12 to 24 hours before washing it. I started using a small amount & my hair loved it. I gradually increased the amount of amla I applied, & I finger detangle my dry curls until I can actually run my fingers thru my curls, which isn't usually possible. I was worried it would buildup & prevent a good clean but it doesn't. It has decreased hair fall while washing & makes my hair feel great. I don't really struggle w/ protein moisture balance though, I assess my hair after each step to help determine the next product. Even if I think I know which products I want to use, I sometimes change my mind based on how my hair feels after shampoo, again after conditioner, again after leave in, etc. This works the best for me & every since I started doing it this way I haven't had any issues at all. But the amla oil has really been amazing for my curls 😀

@@sunflowerbaby1853 it's called Mayan's Secret virgin amla oil. I got it on Amazon. I hate the smell lol. It's very peppery. I found out I can use a LOT - & it gives me the best results but doesn't cause any buildup. (I don't use sulfates but I don't cowash either, so idk if cowashing would work as well or not).

I recommend you don't shampoo at all. I have scalp psoriasis and my scalp is very dry and my hair was bleached three times. I don't shampoo anymore unless I feel like my hair touched germs from outside. I just wash my scalp with water only, with my hands. I find not shampooing make my hair more healthy because the oil in hair doesn't get washed away. I recommend you try it. Try at least not washing your hair but wash your scalp with shampoo if your scalp is oily in general.
