One of the most important things for meditation is that we need to build up the habit of meditating. Why? Because everything that we do in our lives, in the beginning, we feel is very exciting and then, after some time, we lose interest. Especially if it is some kind of learning or transformation. We cannot carry on for too long. Why? Because there is the force of habit.
In this video, Mingyur Rinpoche talks about the importance of developing a daily meditation habit. He shares his own experience and also offers suggestions on how to develop this habit step-by-step.
Mingyur Rinpoche's teaching schedule is available at tergar.org/sch....

I meditate 25 mins every morning and end it with 5 minutes short prayer. It's been more than 160 days so far. How it worked for me? I considered meditation as my power button without which I cannot start my day. No matter what circumstances or how demotivated I am, I have to meditate to start my day.

@Ratul Dutta I hope you still do it even when the month is over. Meditation helps our brain, body and soul in ways nothing else can. It is completely worth it to do it for your entire life.

@@devendullarwar1823 I am still meditating to this day and I didn't gain any tangible outcome. However, I am more mindful than ever before. I don't expect myself to gain anything that fast or soon because the number of days since I started meditating is so small compared to the days count since I was born living with ignorance. I think it's a long journey with recognising the change in your inner-self from time to time, and revealing your originality (the purity) which has been clouded by all kinds of emotions caused by attachment, anger and ignorances. Watch Rinpoche's videos again if you're not near him, and his book might give you different outlook at meditation.

@Ratul Dutta Prioritise and you will develop a steady habit. The short prayer is to Bodhisattva Manjushri to bless me with capability to gain clarity, and then I recite "Eight verses of training the mind". And finally with a prayer to wish long life for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and then for the well-being all the sentient beings (including my loved ones and external adversaries in this samsara).

I'm curious about this praying thing, "I am autistic" so I have vague emotional\sensorial concepts, and references, but I feel the lack of something more concrete. I'm not of any believe, except one I created, symbolizing the moon as this gentle cool guiding light... But I struggle to make it into a more "tangible or practical" concept for my brain to fully wrap around... I think that's what I need... a prayer, or mantra, a chant, even a poem would do. This is why I need to know what YOU do especially, and why, so I can, later adapt it, if anything useful comes up....... Right now, I'm overwhelmed by vague and vast options, and that's come to be... quite discouraging...

For the past 8 years. I have practiced. Sitting down meditation. Either breath meditation or vipassana meditation for 1 hour in a morning, 1 hour in an evening. Through out the day mindfulness meditation, being aware of thoughts, sensations. Also included in my day is metta, loving kindness meditation. It has totally transformed my life. And I cannot recommend enough even sitting down for 5 minutes a day as a regular practice. I feel blessed that we have masters such as Mingyur Rinpoche to guide us 🙏

To anyone struggling with meditation, there are lots of meditation videos here on KZfaq of various lengths, 10min, 15min, 30min, etc. with nature sounds, Buddhist or hindu mantras, Tibetan singing bowls, sitar music, guided meditations, etc. that you can listen to in the background as you focus on your breath. If i use one of these videos that lasts 15mins or so, it greatly helps me focus on my breathing and i don't even notice the time has passed until the mantras or music is over.

I wish I had some tiny piece of extra time in my everyday life, so I could meditate at least half an hour daily. Mostly when I've got the opportunity to sit down and try to meditate I just fall asleep after 5 or 10 minutes. Instead I fullfill the very basic practice of morning Refuge prayer infront of my home Altar and observing the 5 lay Percepts which I do on every day basis. I also try to practice awareness during the day while working etc, and reciting mantras/full Dharanis as much as I can. So I do try to develop the Boddhicitta as much as it's possible and to be kind and less selfish. That's what a lay buddhist in the modern world can do so far. I also dream of having a chance to make an offering or donation to a Monastery in order to complete the Dana Paramite. Whatever I do is surely not enough to achieve enlightment in this life or after death or to reborn in any of the Pure Lands but at least if I earn a better karma or simply become a better human being, guess it is quite enough. Long sessions of meditation every day or retreats from time to time is unfortunetly a huge privelege which I simply don't have nor can I allow myself due to some reasons. Pity but c'est la vie. Anyway I enjoy to watch these videos just as listening to Dharma talks and sermons from a number of great Masters of Mahayana and Theravada traditions. May all beings be happy!

“Life is a journey of tenacity. Only the tough gets to the top through the storm. Take the steps one by one though the errand may be arduous. Never give up though you may grow weary. Think of the purpose though its attainment may be tough. Dare to get to the crown though you may meet the obstacles. You are never born to relax all day but to dare to do the undone. If only it is reasonable enough within the real reasons of your life, and if your soul and spirit convince you of getting it done, then, you have the real reasons to dare for the crown.” ― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah Infinite Love Beautiful Soul! ✨❤

Once you TRULY meditate even ONCE in your life, you'll start doing it out of habit/need. Deep sighs of exhaustion, quickly turn to 10sec vacuuming of your frontal lobe. Waiting rooms, queue lines (and toilet breaks 🤣) turn from moments of boredom, to, what's frankly, the most enlightening moments of your day. Soon you start to play with empathy... IT'S A WHOLE RABBIT HOLE TO DIVE INTO, soon you'll need meditation, just to feel "right" or "Awake"; the feelings you might get from strong tea or coffee, but completely on demand... I have personally noticed my emotional practices/techniques kicking in almost instinctively when I need'em the most! Might not seem like it, but some calm, and clarity of mind can go a long way in a sensible cenário 😉👌

So I didn’t know where really to ask this, but I’m still fairly new to meditation but I meditated an hour ago sitting on my bed and suddenly my dog(who was right next to me) started barking at something, I moved to make sure he wasn’t barking at me, he wasn’t barking at himself in the mirror, but he was fixated on something and kept barking at it(or them) I’ve never seen my dog bark inside the house before let alone staring directly at something, any similar experiences or theories? I’m extremely fascinated and I hope it was actually a spirit or entity that visited.

You might try stopping after 3 minutes, take a short break, then another 3 minutes. You might be trying too hard. We can't stop other thoughts, we notice them and come back to the meditation. No need to focus too much. I'm a beginner and still trying to create the meditation habit, it's hard.
