I subscribed by the way, because your channel is not only intelligently informative, but also because you get straight to the point !!! When I see many women starting to perform with long drawn out chatting( maybe they feel like actresses),I immediately get bored and switch to something else. So compliments to you dear lady, for immediately holding our attention. Ciao, from an Italian.

I so totally agree. Can’t abide videos that actually start about 3mins in, after you‘ve had to listen to a bunch of boring twaddle about what they had for breakfast and how their day has been. Life‘s too short. This is informative, well-delivered and to the point.

New to your channel & quickly subscribed. Although not usually a binge watcher, I have been, for four days, hauling you around the house, so to speak, as I purge no longer needed books & papers. I love your intelligent, warm, concise delivery - with a touch of humor in just the right places. I have learned a great deal & very much enjoyed your videos. I have the dreaded corner fireplace - truly, the bane of my existence. I hope you address this horror in an upcoming video. Thank you for a superior production!

Thank you for this informative video. I do have a dilemma that I would love to hear your take on. I have a large dining room, and there is a full bathroom opening into the dining room, which I find so uncomfortable for my guest to have to use during a meal, they never seem bothered but I hear so many home shows saying who wants a bathroom off the kitchen or dining room. I'm just happy to have a full bathroom on the main floor, regardless of where it is located. Due to the fact that my dining room is larger than my kitchen area, I am considering a remodel where I would make the dining room a great kitchen and making the kitchen a small cozy family room. You enter the house into a great room, but everyone gathers in the dining room. This would make the new kitchen area the center of the room and would allow guests to enjoy more of the house. The plumbing wouldn't have to be moved because it would just back to the plumbing wall. I wish to sell my home and I believe the awkward kitchen has been one of the main deterrents. I'd love to hear your feedback.

Liked the video for the reasons other reviewers gave in depth, you got to the point, clear, concise. I’m not sure if this is really a “how to” but rather a “where” focal points should be. Very thoroughly detailed how to determine where the focal points should be. The next videos, and there seem to be, based on your listeners requests, (1) how to make focal points on a budget, simple and more elaborate and (2) how to make focal points with an upper middle to high end budget, (and go with your design terms.). Fabulous videos. Now, my one suggestion, when you’re speaking, you are the focal point. You don’t want any distractions. Look at what you’re standing in front of. Don’t stand in the middle of a doorway. You’re cut in half. If you want to record inside, but have the outside feel, get in the middle of the doorway, so you’re centered. If not, find a nice plain wall with a good color or simple pattern. You’re an excellent speaker. Look at the entire picture. Many thanks from a new subscriber.

Hi Olga, loved this video, now I can spend some time designing the focal points in our tiny flat. We are in a rental, so like to keep alterations to the minimal. Our living room (about 20 sq meters) serves as dining, living, a study, and kid’s play area with a piano. My question is how do we design focal points so it doesn’t look messy. I feel like I have too much displayed atm.

I have binge-watched your videos. Thank you for getting to the point! I don't have unlimited time to watch YT, so I thank you for a concise format. We are considering moving our kitchen from the back of the house to the front. Our 70's ranch is plain, poorly laid out, and uninspiring. (We purchased the land, the house came with it!) The current kitchen is a small, dark, walk-through galley style. The room we are considering is larger, brighter. The utilities in the basement are right below, so running them up to the new room will not be difficult. We would probably remove some walls, change windows, and even move the front door! My point is : thank you for talking about focal points. This helps me immensely in thinking about what-goes-where in the new spaces. New sub. Best wishes to you.

My apartment has 3 flrs. But the 1st thing you see is stairs and the living room. There is no space you just kinda fall into the area. Its hard to make one focal point with this type of layout. If you come in from the back or kitchen the wall in front has to bee focal but my stove and ill placed cabinet and a doorway are there. I am painting my door this summer so i can spruce up my curb appeal. I guess what im asking is how or what can i do to break the space up a bit so that you dont just fall into the space? I was thinking of making a small faux foyer by hanging curtains from ceiling to floor wall to wall completely enclosing the living room. Like a faux wall. This way when you walk in you see the stairs and beautiful soft curtain wall. Idk.

A wonderful lesson. Thank you so much. Only it’s hard to apply in my tiny place. I have a tiny hallway that is filled placing a small commode. Open the door and you walk pas the table which can only be on the left and you look at the back window front which actually is the whole wall. You walk right into the balcony door. My hallway to the bedrooms consists of doors and is 1m wide and 2 long. The floor in my shower is 90cm x 1m11cm ( 3 feet?) with no space beside the sink. Also there are no little corners. Just straight . And for a American person it must be hard to imagine : ) But I will try to at least make a point at the spaces where I can place something. This helped so much.

Hi. I love your videos, and I was wondering if you have ever recorded anything talking about the distribution of a colour pallet throughout the house. I really likethis. I agree with the other statements, too much personal info just doesn't do it for me. I also agree with the comment of liking to see information on smaller homes. I think the content of this video can definitely apply to smaller homes, but something specific for small spaces would be great. I have a question on the lines of a smaller home. Our entry is into the living room. The door is to the left of the long room and the furniture, because of window placement, is set to the left of the living space. Consequently, there is an open space to the right of the furniture and directly in front of the door. I have art work above the couch which is on that wall, but I don't know what to put in the space in front of the door which is to the right of the couch. I feel like whatever I put needs to flow with the entire wall and everything I try seems to confuse me. Currently I have a sofa type table with a mirror sitting on it. Unfortunately the mirror doesn't sit at the appropriate height to see yourself. I wondered if a tall floral option would be good fit. What do you think?

Upon opening the main entrance door which is located on the right side of my VERY small home, you can see in order the living room, dining room, center staircase and the kitchen in an open space desing. In creating a focal point for each part, which side should i place them, opposite side of the door or same side of the door? THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE. 😁

Hi Olga, I have some dilemmas. My living room is about 14' high with the red brick fireplace all the way to the ceiling which is at the peak of the cathedral ceiling. 3 dark color beams, with 5" dark stain wood trim baseboard in dining and living areas. The living area (with fireplace) floor is Brazilian cherry which is next to yellow/brown/gray travertine tiled floor in the dining area. I can't make up my mind if I should change the baseboard white or not.
