CHICKANIC: The fuel tank valve is a one way filtered air check valve that allows air into the fuel tank... and does NOT allow vapors or fuel to exit. The valve allows "make-up" air to enter the fuel tank to avoid a vacuum / fuel starvation from the displaced fuel that is burned. It would appear that in fact your fuel tank valve was properly working and more than likely the fuel ultimately moistened the diaphragm assembly, making it flexible, which stopped the stiff pressure that was applied to the metering lever... which stopped the leak and resulted in the unit no longer flooding. I had a piece of equipment leak fuel all the time, came from the dealer like that... Thought it might be a faulty tank vent, changed that out. Still leaked fuel. Turns out it was the needle lever was up too high, so the needle was always open. What gave that away was there was zero change in RPM in the H screw. So after getting into the carb, found that out and was easy to fix back to proper ZAMA height.

Great videos! I have seen them all. I have been a small engine technician for 45 years and love a challenge, and see you do to. Awesome job you do, wish I could get my wife to help some times. I love Echo produced I have a CS-440 I bought in 2005 and saw about 15 cord of wood each year, regular maintenance goes a long way and proper oils to. Great job! looking forward for more videos.

I have a feeling you will get this one back. A tank vent is not an air outlet. it is a air inlet so the tank can not form a suction in the tank and prevent fuel from getting to the carb. But never does a tank went allow air to escape. You will get this one back. Hope I am not making anyone mad but that vent is to let the tank breath in as it burns up the fuel. Not to release pressure. Built up pressure will never go through the needle if the carb is right. That carb has a reason the needle is not sitting right or diaphragm issues. But not a vent valve.

We have a guy in our area called Mountain Enterprise. He told me about Mechanic in a bottle years ago. It's good stuff.

I recently had a Poulan that I hadn't used in a couple years, yes I drained the fuel. But it needed new fuel lines to get running as they were split and leaking gas. Ran good for a few hours while I cut up a tree then sat again for 6 months, yes I ran out the fuel before that 6 months. Got it started but it ran pretty crappy. Fiddled with the carb screws and got it running really well(maybe too well), but chain needed sharpening so stopped to do that. After that I could never get it to even blub blub a few times even using starting fluid. I'm guessing the ignition module died, but since it is probably 20 years old and I don't use a chain saw much more that every year to 6 months, decided to switch to electric. Got an Ego 18" and it starts every time even after sitting for months! Woo Hoo!

I have the same unit. There is a tiny roller on the throttle valve that is easy to lose. Without the roller it will never run right! Nice video!

I recently got a hold of a Weed Eater Excalibur hedge trimmer. Piston, and cylinder were destroyed. I did save the Zama carb in case someone needs it.

Same thing happened to my 8 yr old PAS 225 trimmer. I just replaced the carburator with an OEM.

My father was stationed on the Nimetz, very large aircraft carrier, he would have been upset to hear you call it a boat.

Perfect timing, just picked up a es 210 shredder vac that won't rev up. Noticed the filter was soaked. This thing was really filthy from sucking up and mulching leaves. Haven't torn into it yet but you can bet I'll be checking that vent closely first

Good stuff, last year, I got so angry with the hedge trimmer I tossed it back into the shed. I then grabbed the chainsaw and used that. Didn't look great... But it worked, and was much faster! Lol. Suppose I may need to look at the trimmer again. ✌️🖖

I've been studying small engine work fulltime at KZfaq University since July 2021, watching literally thousands of videos (for several hours every day). My primary goal is acquiring equipment free or cheap and flipping, although I've started to do repairs for friends and family in a very small way. Although I'm subbed to your channel I don't have the notifications turned on. I watched plenty of your content early on until I started sorting through various channels to only get notifications from the ones I wanted to watch every day. I do see yours in my feed and click on those that seem interesting or informative to me at that moment (like this one!). Some of what you covered in this video is content I had not come across yet (and I'm subbed to many channels, including 5 you have listed). I understand how a carb works but it hadn't really occurred to me yet about exactly how the metering diaphragm could potentially flood or starve an engine of fuel and relating that to symptoms. I was already aware of adjusting the inlet needle lever or replacing a needle or seat but I hadn't ever heard that a diaphragm which was working during the previous season could possibly be revived by "exercising" it with fresh fuel, but I guess that makes perfect sense (at least sometimes). Certainly worth a try rather than having to take the time to research, order and install a rebuild kit! I was also aware of how check valves work in these engines but have yet to work on one with a separate hose running to an external check valve. Learning how that turned out to be the primary issue with this engine and how clear hose makes more sense in this particular installation helps a lot. Now I have more diagnostic and repair tools to add to my toolbelt! :) (...and source high quality clear hose equal to Tygon!) If I may, I'd like to offer a bit of constructive criticism about your audio quality. This is something of which you're probably already aware, but I notice it in so many creators' content I keep bringing it up to hopefully improve overall content throughout KZfaq. If you go back over this video and note when the audio volume is low and when it's high and then correlate that to where and how you had your equipment set up maybe you can see what needs to happen (with your existing equipment). The final outdoor segment has much better volume and is easier to hear compared to the indoor segments, especially the first indoor segment which is very difficult to hear. I'm guessing you're using a single camera with included microphone for all your work. The creators who have switched to lapel (lavaliere) mics do have much better sound quality because nothing drops out and almost always the volume is high enough for us to hear everything said. (Of course it's important for those mics to have a foam cover to avoid wind noise and sibilances (vocal "s" sounds). Please bear in mind we can always turn the sound down on our end but with a lot of equipment we have only a limited ability for volume increase. I'd much rather have to turn it down than have to put on headphones or earbuds to get enough volume. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work!

I have a Ryobi hedge trimmer that has stripped the flywheel twice ..the key way is cast in the aluminum flywheel and strips very easily.

More four stroke four cycle stuff please particularly Honda. I have a Honda rotavator/tiller the tank vent id a knob on the filler cap that you have to unscrew to let the air in. Forget and it will not start.

Tank vent??? Tank vent!!! ....argh!!!... frustration !!! two carbs later ...and my problem is a tank vent?? Thank You for this!!! ....but Argghhh!!! btw, I like your online persona/style.

I've had this issue with a sthill hedge trimmer, don't remember what model it was but the tank vent was in the fuel cap.. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was but just cleaned the fuel cap with compressed air and it was all working as it should again.

All the echo equipment I have had or have had a duck bill as we call it in the tank vent basically a rubber check valve lets air in the tank as the engine runs but stops anything from tank going out through the vent. at the last when you ran it sounds like it’s running a little lean could still have carb issue.
