Sorry to hear of your loss. God came for our mother last Wednesday. She is missed... alot. Yea. Just be sure to get oem. More expensive but it is worth it for things like this. Air filters and oil filters spark plugs and minor things Ike that doesn't matter as much

I'd like to know the same thing

Look for a hole in the impulse line. The impulse is cause by the air displaced in the crankcase from the piston. If the engine is "worn out" It would have no impulse.

What did you find out? My cub just started doing this.

I wouldn't. It doesn't need anything to lube or soften the diaphram.

The Briggs probably didn't have one because the tank was high enough it would gravity flow.

What symptoms are you having is it leaving a puddle of gas engine is off, does it run too rich?

@@SkylarHillShop no puddle. Just running too rich. So far I've freed up the choke spring that was keeping the choke closed and not springing back. That may have been the issue, but the fuel was only 1/4 full in the clear fuel filter. I always thought those completely stayed full. Blew some carb cleaner thru it. But when I wanted to make sure the fuel pump was working (one of those suction ones) i took off the tubing running from the pump to the carb. Grabbed a cup and was planning to turn over the engine and see if it pumped. But the minute I removed the tube from the carb, gas came pouring out and didn't stop until I closed the fuel shut off. Its not really a gravity feed situation so the pump may be allowing too much gas thru. Sound reasonable? Ps thanks for any help

The needle and seat in the carburetor should regulate how much flow it's receiving. You can try cleaning those. Also sometimes floats leak and start taking on fuel which causes over fueling as well. This is also assuming the needle valves are adjusted correctly...

Suction is created by the movement of the piston in a tightly sealed engine. Possible causesof no suction: broken connecting rod, bent or misadjusted valves, blown head gasket.

@@SkylarHillShop Thanks, but it runs fine with no exhaust smoke as long as I keep pouring gas or cleaner directly into the bowl. I don't think it would do that with any of those problems. Would a bad breather seperator cause the problem? Thanks again.

That's usually either cause by fuel leaking past the needle and seat in the carburetor. Or it could be a bad fuel pump. If there is gas in the impulse line the diaphragm in the pump is torn.

There could be an obstruction in the fuel tank. I've seen that before. They can look like a bad pump because the pump is just sucking the junk up against the end of the fuel line in the tank and can't pull any fuel.

@@SkylarHillShop Fuel tank is fine. I get good flow from the tank to the pump.

And you can feel a pulse if you put your finger over the end of the impulse line?

If you can feel it, its enough.

Is the impulse line in good shape? No holes or cracks, and it fits snugly on the fitting on the motor

Check to see if the vacuum hose is plugged. There is no vacuum pump. The pulse is created by the piston moving up and down in the cylinder.

As long as the line is connected to the engine it will have "pressure". It's not going to be a steady flow of air just short little impulses every time the piston goes up and down. I suppose the line could be plugged somehow.

So what happens to the suction if a valve is stuck?

It would have no effect. The impulse of air is created by pressure in the crankcase. If you're connecting rod broke then you would have no impulse on the line. But at that point you've got a lot bigger issues than a bad fuel pump.

@@SkylarHillShop There was a tiny piece of what appears to be silicon or sealant that got flushed out with a good blast of carb cleaner, good shout on the plugging suggestion 👍

@@SkylarHillShop line has been removed and air directly applied to pulse tube fitting. And vaccum drawn.

The pump does not work off vacuum. it needs the pulse from the crankcase to push the diaphragm in the pump and release it repeatedly

No, the only way you could run without one is if the fuel tank is higher than the carburetor.
