How To Diagnose & Fix an Integra Rear Hatch That Won't Open

This is a common and known problem with Honda/Acura Integras with electronic rear latches. I believe the effected years are 98-2001. These are only on the 3 door versions so if you have a 4 door Integra this information won't be helpful to you.
The most common cause is a faulty latch actuator, but it could also be the switch or relay. I cover how to make that determination in this video.
There is also an extended version of this video where I take apart the actuator assembly to try and repair it if you're interested here: www.ericthecar...
Here is the part # for the actuator assembly: 74840-ST7-A01
I got my part here: www.acuraautomo...

I've had 5 Integras at this point. I have to say, my 91 was my favorite. Even though I have this car now, I still miss that one. Had 326K on it and was still running strong when I gave it to my son for his first car. Only took him about 4 months to kill it. Sad really.

GREAT VIDEO. super straight forward haven’t found as good a video as this. Now I can fix my trunk! Allllso maybe you’ll kno how to do this or not but I need help. Please tell me how to fix the door handle so that there’s not much resistance. My problem isn’t that the door sticks, it’s that the door handle has a lot of resistance when I lift it. So I broke it but my passenger side is super easy to lift with no resistance. So I’m wondering what the difference is and I don’t know if a new door handle will fix it because it may still have that resistance, so I’ll just break the new one too. I wonder if it’s the opening mechanism on the very inside of the door where you have to reach into the metal. Insight on how to make this more smooth!!?! Maybe as easy as lubricating it, or maybe realigning? Insight, pleease!!

I just came back for an update, my trunk actuator started to act up again, but it wasn’t that it was the trunk lock assembly, apparently there is a motor inside of that as well that goes bad and if that doesn’t unlock the mechanism fully, it won’t send power to the relay and actuator to open the trunk.. I swapped the motor out for another one from a parted Teg and it worked like a charm .
