Differentiation brand is everything in business. Many companies are drowning in a “sea of sameness” where they look the same, act the same and offer the same types of products and services. There is a famous quote, “Different is better than better.” You have to start by having an intimate understanding of your competition and how and what they are doing. It’s the first step in knowing how to differentiate your brand so you can own more of the market.

As always helpful and fabulous video! It would be cool if you could take 10 products you might find at stores and discussed them their logos there are fonts etc. and what’s really good about them. I would just talk about what you like but you could also talk about once that are bad. Just an idea. Thanks

Very helpful, Philip. You made me look introspectively at what I'm doing...and it made me realize that often I am just aping everyone else, as in, "Hey, look at me, I can do that, too." Your advice reminds me of Seth Godin's idea of a "tribe," and how what each of us really needs is the smallest number of true friends (in the business sense) to take advantage of our unique core strengths and allow us to thrive creatively. I have some house cleaning to do.... (BTW, the multiple-camera-angle thing looks great!)

Don't play the middle. It's hard because people like the middle, it's counterintuitive - but it's the only way to stand out. Your videos are crushing it can't wait to work with you some day when I'm finally at that place.

Hi Phil. Great video. Thank you. I do however have a question, how do I study my competition? Who they are reaching out to, how they do it, what they are saying, etc. A website or social media only tell about 10% of what really goes on. How they reach out and create interest and make sales, a lot of that is internal data that they aren't willing to release (trust me, I've called and tried LOL). So how do you suggest we do it?

I visit a Comic con about two week ago and I talk with a publisher company who help artist self publish and he told me something I could not agree with about my style of art. He say my style art is like manga and the market place in the comic industry does not accept manga style unless you would Asia created manga style art. Which was weird to hear, for first of all my style of art is something I have been doing for years, yes I have been influences by anime but I have to disagree with what he say about the marketplace.

Maria, I have a short and specific comment: Don't listen to him. Do your thing. Get better at it every day. Carve out your own niche. Be different. -- and that is why you should self-publish, so you don't; have to listen to publishers tell you what they think works.

@@PhilipVanDusen I am working with a group of Artists and we are forming a brand new Graphic novel and comic publishing company. We interviewed two artist at Galaxy con two weeks ago for the publishing company we are forming believe in promoting and supporting new artists. That publishing company I talk to was trying to get me to check out there. But yes, I agree with you on that.

Wait... why is there only 900 views when he has 175k subs? KZfaq being KZfaq I guess
@PhilipVanDusen
@PhilipVanDusen 5 жыл бұрын
Jackson, I know, right? YT drives me crazy with how they prioritize/de-prioritize promotion of videos. All my subs are real though, but my highest engagement is with my trend content videos. But if 900 people love my stuff, that's 900 people I am helping - and that is all that matters to me.
