Just to note, I managed to cut them off without having to disassemble the wheel at all, so that's probably worth trying first :D

Guys, save yourselves a lot of trouble. All i did was prise off one of the wheels with a strong screwdriver - pulled the spindle out with the other wheel still attached. A small plastic block / spacer piece, virtually falls out from the centre of the wheel. Underneath that is a small spring which in 3 of my 5 wheels flew out. However, If necessary remove it - replace the spindle with the wheel still fitted to one end and push the 2nd wheel back on by hand. The whole thing took me around 15 minutes to complete. No need to cut anything away because you've disconnected the brake mechanism. 🙂Happy days!

I just bought a set of skate wheel casters with 10mm stems. Much kinder to my laminate floor than the originals.
