Excellent video on how to get something done without expensive special pullers. Other pullers work and other locations have free loan-a-tool. I used Oreilly’s puller different than yours. Get the 8’ bolts and not 6 or 7”, they don’t grab enough threads and will strip (disaster). When you say coarse thread the exact spec is 5/16 18 pitch not 24 pitch 8” long bolt. Your pliers worked but I bought at the same price Knipex 12” 44 11 J4 which probably have more griping power to use on other lower units. Just providing other options on the cheap

The Knipex model is actually made in Germany, price was about the same, the prongs at the end were thick made from better steel (rather than interchangeable pot metal of same or steel from Communist China), and prongs actually have slight angle inwards to hold the c-clip from popping off the tool during extraction. PS, I don't’ buy Communist Chinese tools not just because I served in the Military but they are cheaply made and lack integrity (a corner of some sort will be cut in the manufacturing process even if designed and contracted (spec’s) by an American company).

My drive shaft nut was on much tighter, vice grips were not getting it done and I risked damaging the splines. There is a socket available on Amazon for, $20 and the spec is 22mm 20 spline. I wasn’t sure but it is used on this model and many other higher HP models and years. It is also used on some Yamaha, for this reason I recommend the socket at it’s price point

Mine was on tight. The video doesn’t show me actually truly breaking it loose. My vise grips fit perfectly into my splines. So I just had to really man handle it to get it to crack loose. Thanks for the comments. Shoot me a subscribe. That’s what actually helps me.

Question: I bought a seal and bearing kit because mine was leaking gear oil....do I only have to do the seals on the bolts and the bearing from the beginning?....I don't know if I need to disassemble the whole thing....

@@TheDIYDoc I gotcha....I just wasn't sure if I had to tear the whole thing apart...no sense in doing that if I don't have too lol. But if I'm in for a penny, in for a pound, right? Lol

@@zachschaefer3824 you don’t have to tear the whole thing apart if gears are fine! You need to replace all the seals. So bearing housing oRings. Housing Seals. The driveshaft seals and O rings.
