So funny because I did this 5 years ago and looked everywhere for a video. And even filmed myself doing the repair but never made it. Glad someone finally did. Also, if you ever lock you keys in your truck. Do not, I repeat do not break you wing window. hah

I locked my keys in my truck at home depot once. So I got 2 flat head screwdrivers + a rag and popped the xtra cab window out and reached in and unlocked the door: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bsV-nMphnKmspmw.html

@@6thGearGarage Nice, my truck was my first vehicle. I had had it two weeks and i locked my keys in my truck at a store I was at. I figure at my young minded logic that a smaller window would be cheaper to replace if i had too. tried to pop it open and its broke it. it took me 3.5 years to find another vent window. A co worker had one he had been holding on to forever and almost didnt want to sell it to me. haha. Finally have both my wing windows back. - Anyways, I have a 84 toyota and i come to you for a lot of repair videos. Thanks for what you do!

@@redbeard9412 No joke - those vent windows are sooo expensive because they're no longer made. Everyone holds on to them like Gold.

Please keep uploading these videos they are extremely helpful I just took apart a dash for a 1986 pick up because of your videos! Also can you do some videos on a 1986 turbo pick up my turbo is stalling? Thank you in advance.

I’m hoping one good thing of this Toyota price jump is that more people will start making aftermarket replacement parts for these... since they are a dying breed between wheelers and going out of the states daily

Is there a way to replace the latch or remove the latch? My 89 pickup vent window latch doeat hold it tight anymore. When i drive in the freeway it allows slight air in.

I have not yet found a way to remove the latch from the metal base. I've has one break off once though, and it didn't go back on.

Thanks for your videos! I’m putting a new vent window in my 94 pickup. The other one shattered. Do I have to remove the whole frame assembly or can I just slide the new glass in?

If you’re only replacing the glass, you can slide it in the chrome base (not always easy to do) and then tighten the upper screw to install it without removing the entire assembly.

Thanks! What a relief, I think my frame may have been replaced before. It’s black and the glass rail is not as long as I’ve seen in your videos

i have an 5th gen, 89 pickup. i'm wondering if the 4th gen and 5th gen windows would be the same if i were to swap to vent windows? i ask bc the doors look different on the 4th gen but perhaps the windows still fit? i have found a handful of them online but it's always on a 4th gen like you mentioned in the video. thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, they are shaped differently. The fifth GEN vent windows are pretty rare compared to fourth GENs

I believe most are discontinued. You will have to search the used market or ebay.

Last time I checked, the gaskets are still discontinued.

@@6thGearGarage aww man dang, i really appreciate it.. Thank you let me know if you find anything aftermarket or from Toyota them selves im going to be poking around to see if i can find good used ones or something im leaking water bad inside the cab I appreciate it if you could do that😎

great vid, they are gold to us that own one of these m/c, do you have any info about the dreaded window that sticks half way down and requires a reverse wind to free it up, cheers,

I would pull off the door panel and see if there is any grease on the metal track of the regulator. Put some grease on the teeth of the gear part as well. Not enough lube can cause it to bind up like that.
