Thank you very much for this video! Glad it was straight to the point, no talking and just clearly showed exactly how to disassemble this specific model. I don’t think I would have figured out that I had to pop off the keyboard and CD drive to find more hidden screws without this video! 5 stars!

wasn't as trivial as I thought it would be. 2 suggestions - 1, if you've never disconnected one of the newer data/ribbon cables that most of these laptops have, be sure to flip up the black locking mechanism first. I attempted to 'yank' out that keyboard cable and almost ruined it in the process. Only other suggestion is do pay attention to that DVD drive data cable. The cable and harness are attached to the rear cover that you will be lifting out (it's not so evident in this video) and as long as you make sure the sata connector is still in place and you feed the cable back into the rectangular slot when you re-assemble - that DVD drive should 'snap' right into it as snappy as it popped out of it.

It's not b/c of being cheaply made - they intentionally make it difficult to fix so that people are forced to take it to them when stuff goes wrong.

Just as in another video doing much the same thing, both videos are missing the dvd drive connector ribbon and the extreme hassle and lucky tweaking required to reconnect it. Is easy enough to pull the dvd drive out but in doing so you disconnect the cable that attaches to the drive. The ribbon for the connection comes out of that black rectangle spot to the right of the wlan chip wires. Mine was not permanently attached to the board for easy lineup and re-connection when the drive is reinserted. Mine would not connect and pushing the drive back in just moved the ribbon around. I had to take the cover off again and connect the drive manually and then carefully line up the drive and snap the cover back on top. Was not easy, took many tries and tantrums,and I still did not get the cover completely on perfectly. It is on, but not quite right. But the lid opens and closes and the drive works so far. So be careful people, this is way more of a hassle then this appears.
@James-rw3yw Жыл бұрын
Remove the ribbon cable from the mother board, snap it in place on the bottom of the shell and gently feed the ribbon back through the top. Snap the bottom of the laptop together (gently). Plug your ribbon cable back into the mother board. Insert your DVD drive and lock into place with screws. It took me a minute and would be great if the video showed this step as I could not find it anywhere. Good luck.

Thanks very much for this, I have since followed it to successfully replace a damaged HDD with a new SSD. I would never been able to have got the laptop open if I hadn't seen your video because of the hidden screws under the keyboard and the DVD drive. However, apart from the keyboard, I only needed to remove one other ribbon cable so I don't really understand why you undid them all. The only thing that wouldn't go back properly is the screw that goes near the middle of the bottom cover because it doesn't seem to engage with anything. Does anyone have any ideas about why this might be?

I did this for my brothers laptop but I put the SSD into a caddy that replaced the DVD drive. I moved over the partitions for the Boot & C drive onto the SSD by using a bootable USB recovery drive I made with Macrium Relflect free software. I then booted using SSD drive and removed the old partitions with MiniTool Partition Magic and made a D drive partition with that extra space on the original HDD. The DVD drive is still usable as an external drive with a DVD SATA to USB connector I got off Ebay.

More value would be added to the disassembly job by explaining what's being done as you go along, like naming each component that is being loosened. Why do the keyboard and the CDD have to be removed when they are not in the way of removing the SSD? Does anybody know why a two-year old Dell 15 3000's SSD would pack up like in my case? I have a 9-year Samsung Core i3 that is happily moving along, no problems, other than being slower than this Core i5!

Hello, I would like to replace my old HDD with a new SSD. Do i have to format my laptop before changin?
@samuelclary64525 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely not an expert, and I would strongly encourage you to do a bit more research. That being said, I have been looking into upgrading my laptop as well. I am going to answer everything for a Windows based operating system. To answer your question: In short...no. By this I mean that you do not need to format your laptop in a special way before swapping the HDD and the SSD. Some things to be aware of: *BACK UP YOUR DATA BEFORE DOING ANYTHING* 1) You will need a SATA to USB cable to transfer data from your HDD to your SSD. These are relatively cheap. 2) If you would like to keep all of your programs, program product keys, etc., it's best practice to buy an SSD that is AT LEAST as large as the partition that currently stores all of this information. (Typically the C: drive) The reason for this is that you will want to "clone" your existing HDD to your SSD. This is not a simple case of copying files over in the "File Explorer". You will need to download some cloning software, but luckily there are free versions which are pretty easy to use. Samsung SSDs come with this type of software I believe, and if I remember correctly, Crucial uses a free version that you can download. 3) If you can't buy an SSD that is as big or bigger than your current partition that you would like to clone (multiple TBs can still be pricey if on a budget), you can always use the "Disk Management" program that is built into Windows to resize (shrink) your partition to be the same size as your SSD. Once you have done this, you can proceed with the cloning process. *I am only confident of this last step for Windows 10 because I have upgraded a laptop from HDD to SSD with a clean install. This is the hardest of the methods, but only because of the amount of steps.* 4) If you just want to keep your files like Documents, Pictures, Music, etc. but no programs: -- You will not need the SATA to USB cable; just move those files that you would like to keep to a flash drive or to some cloud based storage system like Google Drive or Dropbox. -- Go to Microsoft's "Download Windows 10" website and select the option "Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 10 on a different PC (click to show more or less information)". Download this on a flash drive of CD. You will need it for an install of Windows 10 on your SSD. There are more steps than this, but my reply is already getting rather lengthy. The Microsoft website has the final steps listed there. This should put you on a good path to replacing your SSD. It is not hard; there are just several steps. Luckily there are thousands of guides for every step of this process. I almost forgot to mention: If you are NOT cloning the SSD then be sure to go to your laptop's manufacturer (Dell, Asus, Toshiba, Acer, etc.) website after you have installed Windows 10 to download all the drivers for your laptop. These will make sure things like video, audio, and your trackpad (among other things) work correctly. Best of luck!

If you buy a Samsung SSD then use Samsung Migration software to clone the hdd data on the ssd. I did this on my dell Inspiron 15 3576 and it worked a charm. No need to do anything, just clone and replace the drive.

@@aunreza Yes, provided that the SSD was the same size or larger than the partition(s) being cloned.
