We built a DIY pergola that transformed our patio into the new favorite hangout spot. The Toja Grid bracket system made this DIY patio project easier than we thought.

@@Jimmy-2-Times In my experience, most people just do that to mean 'rock and roll,' not a literal reference to some obscure demon they've probably never even heard of. In the 80's & 90's (in the US) the hair-metal bands' fans popularized this. Pretty sure any allegiance to an evil spirit would have been the furthest thing from the mind of 99% of the people doing this hand gesture then & ever since then. I don't know the guy in the video, but I doubt he actually worships Baphomet. I get it; I agree: Baphomet & devil bad. If he does worship baphomet, I certinaly don't like that. But, he didn't ask for my opinion on his religious beliefs. Regardless, he should have freedom of speech or I guess freedom of expression via hand symbols. I honestly didn't even notice it and had to rewatch the video to see what you were talking about.

That's *BEAUTIFUL* !!! Put one on the other side and build an outdoor kitchen with a grill + outdoor pizza stove. You can also add a bar with a small refrigerator so one person can cook on that side while guests chill on the other. That would be so amazing all summer!!! Everyone can see everything as it's happening and the ambiance makes a mood. 🤤. #Goals. 🏆.

You can train vines up it or get cloth pieces to drape through it, or attach a piece of lattice work over the top... ideally the slats should be oriented such that it provides some shade. Overhanging the slats would help extend the coverage, too. But, mostly it creates a "room" feeling, if not a ton of real privacy or weather protection. :)

@@pamelah6431 I was thinking vines would help with the sun, but it would take a while for them to grow that long. You don't see many pergolas in the deep south. What we do have a lot of are gazebos.

For those commenting about lack of shade etc, normally the horizontals in the roof are oriented vertically and angled so that they are perpendicular to the suns rays at high noon in your location. That makes for ‘odd’ angles that many people don’t like so they just settle for being perpendicular or parallel to the house. Properly oriented pergolas are great sun shades.

Not bad guy! Just a couple tips. The top of the pergola is just rafters, not a roof. It has no sheathing or roofing. The corner hardware is a bracket, the ones for the rafters are hangers. Also you shouldn't paint or stain pressure treated lumber until is has weathered for 6 months to a year. The moisture from the treatment will surface and push off the paint. Keep keeping on though!

As a builder, I find they can be aesthetically pleasing, adding character and appeal to one's home and/or garden They do provide some shade and privacy, but it's no concrete wall. I built one in my backyard 5 years ago and planted a Grape vine next to it that went crazy! Now every Summer it's completely covered in grape vines, huge leaves and yes fruit. I have a bench under it now but will be replacing it for Jacuzzi Tub full of bubbles and essential oils, adding some string lighting and/or candles. Fresh bunches of Plump Juicy Gapes just a hands reach away while soaking. It's damn Sexy and makes the Panties Drop Quick! That's why.
