I have used medium gauge wire fencing instead of rebar. I've had a curb crack, but due to the fencing it didn't come in have and was still skateable for a good while. Also, I wonder if super long curbs are just hard to move...their own weight is a problem. A couple of my ramps have cracked, next time I'm going to try and keep them wet longer. Good work.
@ZackDowdy
@ZackDowdy 4 жыл бұрын
Joe solid points dude! Honestly I think using less amount of water during the mixing process is crucial too. Not letting the crete get to sloshy because it gets too weak during the cure. Good call on the gauge wire fencing instead of rebar! Any metal to grab makes sense!

My wife wants to make a little wooden bank-to-curb for the garage…when I was a kid our indoor park had one like this…pretty neat how they built it. I think I am going to custom build a curb that will fit perfect up top- kinda dropped into it an inch. 😂 don’t know why she wants to drag it in and out of the garage but I believe it’s probably because her and her girlfriends are thinking they want to carry it around to different spots in her truck. I can kinda see it…hell yeah another good vid! Thanks Z

I do concrete work and the saw is a good idea but yeah a rubber mallet works just fine to get the air voids out and yeah the concrete form let it harden and the next day after 24 hrs bury it in wet sand for 28 days and then you'd get over 5000 psi by the 28th day. Just keep the sand moist. But the tarps work too it isn't something that needs to be spec made and astm tested lol

Concrete should really have a full 30 days or so to cure before any paint is applied to it. It's hard after a day or two, but not anywhere near done curing. Especially if you're going to spend extra for some high compression strength stuff (which is probably a waste of money for these), I'd wait to paint it. Great DIY sk8 project, though!

Zack - quick question for you. I am trying to connect two parking blocks to make one long slappy ledge for my local shop’s parking lot. I used bondo the first time, abs they’ve already come apart. The issue I’m having is that the ends of the parking blocks aren’t vertical, they are slightly angled, so when I push them together, the bottom touches, but there’s this large gap that needs to be filled between them. Any idea on what I could use to get them to stick abs not break? Thx!
@ZackDowdy
@ZackDowdy 2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes! This is a situation I've run into a few times. Some curbs have a straight edge & don't dapper like the ones you mention, but in this case I would cut the curb straight on each edge & push together (with an angle grinder or something) basically to get that sharp edge. Otherwise it's tough, you can try filling it with concrete & then seal with a strong adhesive but you'd need to build some type of form. Sorry I don't have a better solution but if you find one let me know!
