i have a citroen xsara 1.9 diesel , and changing the oil filter is awkward but ive done it first time , took me 30 minutes to change oil and oil filter ... quite messy and hard to get to filter , but really satisfying to do it yourself and you can feel the engine run better afterwards

Something to think about, this is fantastic for the basic oil change service once a year but every few years its still a great idea to get a full service from a mechanic. Its heaps more quid but they'll check other crucial things like belts, suspension, brakes etc and make sure your motor is in tip top! Only needed every 2 or 3 years though I reckon

Only thing i'd say is to lubricate the oil filter's seal before you put it on, as it does increase the longevity of the seal. Other than that, great video!

Learnt well from this thank you. Love the genuine advice. Aiming to buy a 2013 Peugeot 3008 Diesel Auto next after 6 years of my first car. I really hope prior service work has been done properly, seen as milage for my budget - roughly 50 - 60k. Will see how managable this next vehicle is for all things service related 🙂
@JonathanTyas
@JonathanTyas 5 жыл бұрын
The dealer tech wont get the full service kit. Most main dealers usually have bulk oil tanks. It is rarely the manufacturer approved oil as you would buy from the parts counter. Most dealers buy the cheapest oil that meets the specs. Also from experience I have seen the wrong spec oil get used.
@buddysinsight9834
@buddysinsight9834 5 жыл бұрын
I do it because I want it done properly. Some garages like to make out that a service is a huge project. I get the first service done for the warranty and the rest done by me. I put the receipts in the book sign date and milage it. Not a single buyer of my vehicles has ever had a problem with my explanation about doing it properly

A full service should include a visual check of all consumables, likes of brakes, tyres, .....moreover, a full service should include an electrical diagnostic assessment....so to conclude, your recording cannot be viewed as a full garage service ( in my opinion)
@buddysinsight9834
@buddysinsight9834 4 жыл бұрын
It’s always good to also look over a vehicle as well. One thing not to forget is the vehicle is fitted with many early warning lights so if there is any problems it will safely tell you. Anything electrical will show up before your service. Brake pads indicate when needing changing etc. There are many things on a dealerships list used to bulk out the bill but don’t worry one good service and cast your eye over is ideal.

My only question would be regarding recorded service history - if you have done it yourself, there is no stamp, so would your car lose value in comparison to get it done by dealer and getting a stamp in the service book?
@buddysinsight9834
@buddysinsight9834 Жыл бұрын
I have sold my used cars to dealers and very carful private buyers and not one person in all these years has doubted whether it’s been done or not. If you buy a main dealer service kit the receipt has the reg and all of the details on it. I just write the mileage on that and the service book and slip it in that page. I have saved thousands doing it and I always sell my vehicles at the going rate. I do it because I know it gets done properly and that’s what I tell people. It’s still a service history no matter who does it👍

Great video, especially as I own the same truck, never tried to service it myself, until I saw your video which is excellent, air filter was easy, fuel filter was easy, it didn't start first time but I just primed it more and it has been fine, I don't have ramps, I crawled under but I could not see the sump nut, could it be obscured by the sump guard? Is it at the rear of the sump? Sorry I couldn't tell from your video. Thanks.

Richard Jackson Yes you can get to it at the back of the sump without removing anything. You might need a little extension bar to reach it.
