Thanks! I hadn't really thought about trying to learn balancing in a handstand using the face-to-wall approach. I have no problem with kicking up into a handstand against the wall and holding for a minute. I have no problem with doing regulation wall walks. I do have a problem with balancing in a handstand hold...either using the walk to start, or starting free-standing. Practice is not making perfect! One think that you did not address was how far apart to place the hands, and at what angle?? Thank you!

Awesome tutorial. The idea of doing a hand stand used to scare the crap out of me, but I feel more confident about trying after seeing this.

Enjoying all of your videos. Clear and concise. I do have a question about arm position. You say to lock them out. What if your arms are not naturally straight when they lock out, i.e. they hyper-extend a bit. Do you still want to lock them out or should you try to just try to keep them as straight as possible?

Great tutorial. I definitely recommend beginners working on wrist mobility at the same time. As mobility improves it takes considerably less energy and momentum to kick into a handstand from the ground making handstands more efficient and will help in advancing to harder movements like pressing into a handstand.

+Joshua Taft Agreed! Supplemental wrist flexibility and strength training are critical for long term success and also a good warmup and cool down. In the early days I got some nasty golfer's elbow from not warming up my wrists properly!

Amazing video, with detailed explanation, which were as important as the video. Thank you so much. I am experimenting it with just common sense (since a month) and have succeeded to some extent. However this video will go a long way to help me to perfect it. Glad to discover there are people in the world who have experimented on it, and have become masters in it

Any tips for walking your hands in to the wall? I get up there but then I'm stuck!!!
@paradisocrossfit1
@paradisocrossfit1 8 жыл бұрын
Julia Rees No worries! I can't be sure exactly what is happening without seeing, but here are a couple thoughts. -For some people it is a strength issue, so make sure you perform that first step of being able to stay on your hands for a full 60 seconds before trying to move closer to the wall. -A spotter is always great when working on handstands, if you have a friend or coach, they can help support your body while you play with positioning. -Some people struggle to get their hands closer to the wall because their back is arched/ribs are out, work on pulling the ribs down and opening up the shoulders while inching your hands in closer to the wall. Remember, be patient, the more time you spend on your hands practicing and playing the better you will get. In the beginning it may seem impossible, but I promise you will get there if you stick with it! I hope this helps!

Most people can handstand against the wall? Um I can't... wtf
@paradisocrossfit1
@paradisocrossfit1 6 жыл бұрын
No worries, it takes some practice and strength, but I'm sure you can do it! I have people start with their hands on the ground, shoulder width apart, about 6" from the wall. Make sure your fingers are splayed wide and (SUPER IMPORTANT)...really focus on keeping your arms straight (or no bend in the elbow) the entire time. Your legs will be in a kind of lunge position, with one leg bent under you and the other straight. This is like surfing, everyone has a preferred leg they like to have straight/bent. Find what feels natural. From this position you can start practicing kicking up to the wall. While focusing on keeping your arms straight, attempt to kickup your straight leg up as high as you feel comfortable and then control it back down, ideally landing in a similar position. As you get better, you can try to get the heel of that straight leg to touch the wall. Once you can get that back leg to the wall, the final touch is to bring the other leg up and you will have both heels against the wall and you are doing a handstand against the wall! This will take a little time and practice, but I would love to hear how it goes. Thanks!

Mistr Klobasa You are right! I do talk a lot in this video, I was trying to be as thorough as possible to ensure that people practiced properly. If you didn't notice, I provided the progression in the comments and links to those specific drills so you don't have to listen to the entire thing. I would love to hear if the progression works for you! Thanks!:)
