The step by step commentary that you give on this video is excellent and so helpful to anyone wishing to either improve their painting skills or, as in my case, develop a more relaxed and less detailed style of painting. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.

Lazy be-blowed! There's 60 years of experience behind these paintings, and I hope people are grateful that you give us so much. I don't believe,by the way, that there's a mean, or selfish (or lazy!) bone in your body. Mind you - I've not asked the wife.....

Great video Alan, thank you. I've just learnt more about painting in the last 19:49 mins than I've ever learnt before. No one else explains painting so simply and has the insights, like you Alan, again many thanks mate.

Thanks Alan for showing me this great way of painting fast and loose. I too am in my 80's and have been painting detailed paintings for over 30 years. Your method is great when outdoors for capturing the scene before you quickly instead of taking a photograph. Greypelt.

You don't mumble, Alan; maybe some people had trouble with your Wigan accent, but I've always understood every word. I completely understand what you mean by "spiking" - I've done it! But no more: I've been warned... I do admire the way your paintings take shape from your earliest brush-strokes, and without any preliminary drawing (usually); you show perspective without making a fetish of it: you just do it. I also agree about painting and thinking at the same time - couldn't do it!

I'm a new comer to this website and am so glad I found it. I have been painting for some years now but never had the good fortune of having a tutor like Alan Owen, whose gentle manner and voice make it very enjoyable to try and paint "loose": something I've been striving to do for years!! Cheers!

Wonderful use of watercolor paints and brushes in building pictures with a technique of small touches moving light to dark as shapes magically take form as they begin from touches of color and drips of water

Thank you Alan. I love all your demonstrations and am learning a great deal. I am normally one of those "detail" painters so this is a challenge for me to see and paint things in a different way. I don't mind the "mumbling" at all and find you good company however this video did explain a few things I wondered about. Keep up the amazing work. You are making a difference in so many lives by sharing your talent and many years experience. Greetings from Ontario Canada.
