If you're not confident using your artistic skill to draw out the rocks, you simply apply the Fibonacci sequence and it will look very natural.

Your techniques are great. I live in Thailand and not any concrete finishers do anything close to this so I'm going to do it myself. OK I can get guys to lay the concrete and finish it pretty well. I can get texture mats here I think but my question is, how square feet would you say is max for one guy to carve like this after the pour. My driveway is 3.5 meters wide and 18 meters long...about 10' x 54'. I know two carvers end up with different looks so I plan to do the carving myself. How should I section this up so I have enough time for carving?

The open time is pretty forgiving when you go 3/8 thick...we just did a 650 sqft outdoor pool deck...2 people...in one day. We prepped first by using spider lath and our Pro Bond mix over all the cracks on the pool deck on day 1 and let that dry. Pressure washed the deck first! Then laid down spider lath at about 12 to 18 inches wide over each crack and applied the Pro Bond which we applied with a trowel just enough to cover the spider lath. The next day...we applied Pro Stamp at 3/8 inch thick, used a Gauge Rake to get the proper thickness then a smoother and trowels to get it smooth. had to wait 30 minutes for it to get hard enough to use texture mats...then stamped the whole thing in about an hour. waited several hours for it to set hard enough to hand carve...then hand carved the entire surface in about 2 hours. BUT...we had 2 people and a couple helpers. So...if you are doing this by yourself, I would try and only do about 250 sqft a day to give yourself plenty of time. Hopefully they poured your driveway with "control joints" so you may want to divide up your job by the number of control jointed area. For example if your driveway is broken into 4 quarters with the control joints down the center of the length and another at the center of the width...do 1 or 2 of the quarters per day. Hope this helps...and PLEASE realize that I have no idea of the condition of your driveway, temperatures you will be working in, etc., so my answers are best guesses.

Question; if you wanted to do a sun or star print in the center of the patio in addition to the texture overlay, would you use the sun stamp first or after the texture stamps?
@stoneedgesurfaces3959
@stoneedgesurfaces3959 6 жыл бұрын
Texture stamps are going to leave texture...so stamping a smoother or less aggressive stamp after the texture stamp may not give you the less aggressive look you desire for that particular area. For example...when we are using a texture stamp on an area that will have a wood border with less aggressive texture in the wood stamp, we will lay down the wood stamp and then use the texture stamp all around it and not texture where the wood is. We will then use a trowel and sometimes cut the line between the wood stamp and the texture and rock the trowel back and forth to give true separation and add a bit more 3D effect to the wood stamp edges.So...if your sun or star pattern has light or no texture, you may want to texture all around it and not texture where the lighter textured sun or star stamps will be used.As always...there are lots of different techniques...this is just a couple of the ones we use.

How would you do the floors in a house with the wood look? I seen how some others do it but how does this work with your products? How thick does it have to go down on the floor?
@stoneedgesurfaces3959
@stoneedgesurfaces3959 6 жыл бұрын
Having the best products on the market...it works very well! ; )Unless you know how to use a trowel to do a skip trowel wood look...then you would use our wood plank stamps with your mix at 3/8" thick.

Hello Chucker roo, I believe that you may be speaking of a technique by which using a dry release powder as a release agent for stamps which is absolutely exceptable as well as if you are speaking of releasing an actual stone type material to achieve the texture desired from that stone, that would be exceptable as well. Please let me know if this helped at all and feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss. 864-316-0129 Gregg Hensley. Thanks again

I would love to try this on a small entryway about that size (4'x8'). If I take up the wood floor can I pour this over plywood? Should I pour a thin layer of self leveler and go over that? Should I use an uncoupling membrane? Anyone ever try this, any one recommend not trying it. Thanks

yes you can go over plywood...as long as it is stable. Watch this specific video of ours on going over wood: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fb-eZc6jtsmofnWK.htmlatching this video should answer a lot of your questions and give you a step-by-step on how to do it.

It looks great and very informative, but why wouldn't I premix the color in the beginning, then use a stone stamp instead of carving? Seems like a lot of steps to go through.

You can...it just gives you a different look. So...it all depends on your taste and what you are trying to accomplish.What we are teaching in this video is one way of creating a realistic flagstone look with sharp edges on the flagstone and rich wide realistic looking grout joints that actually look like mortar.You can use a stamp to get a "similar" look, and we teach our classes to use stamps as well...but stamps will just about always give a closed pour grout joint and smoother rounder edges to the stones because even through the grout joint in the stamp may look like sand...it is being pressed into the wet concrete closing the pours, and the edges of the stones are hard to make to look sharp in a stamp. Stamps are a great method and a great way to go, and are again...one method.This video is teaching a different technique where the concrete in the grout joints are open pour and look rough and sandy...like actual grout, and the edges of the flagstone are sharp, crisp and a little jagged...more like actual flagstone. Also...you will never have two jobs that look the same as a hand carved flagstone is completely unique and custom for each job.As far as color...absolutely you can mix color in first so you get a consistent integral color throughout the mix. Again, for this video...we are showing one application method where we use standard mix and a specific coloring method to get a realistic look. There are many ways to color concrete, we do teach integral as well as topical coloring in our classes.Great comments and glad you asked because others may have been wondering the same thing.

You're right we should be getting minimum$10 per sq ft doing stamp overlays but that is a pipe dream, at least here in AZ. I've been doing stamp overlays ever since Bomanite was the first company that came out with it. Back then we were getting over 12 bucks but now since all the Mexicans came in and do liked they always do and drive the price into the dirt, I am CONSTANTLY losing jobs to them doing stamped overlays for $4.50 per sq ft..I've owned a concrete business here in AZ for 20 years and am going out of business because the Mexicans have made it impossible to make a living. I also blame the suppliers like this video because as soon as decorative concrete and overlays became popular they were all putting on seminars to anyone that would show, showing them how to do this. So now everyone thinks they are a pro because they learned on a 10x8 sample inside a warehouse..

bruce@stoneedgesurfaces.com ... we have a new French Versailles Travertine stamp that is pulling in around $10 per sqft every time its used. Plus...if you are not doing vertical....lots of $ in vertical! one of our contractors just did a stone veneer job where the Product Cost was $17 per sqft...he came to training specifically because he knew he threw away profit. We showed him how to color match and produce almost the same look for a product cost of around $3 per sqft. This was last week and again Tuesday this week...he has 2 jobs sold for good money...just from this weeks training. I can't go get you the jobs...but maybe we can add some tools into your bag that give you something the other guys can't offer. just a thought.
