In this video we look at how to do parallel compression and processing in Ableton Live 11. Parallel compression is a mixing technique to add depth and thickness to tracks like drums, bass and vocals. You can apply this technique, using sends and returns, to other DAWs e.g. Logic X, FL studio, Pro Tools.

The technique with the effect rack is much more powerful because if you're doing volume automation in your track the amount of dry and compressed signal will stay the same. With the sends the compressor on the return track will be triggered differently depending of the amount of volume sent to the compressor, if you're doing volume automation.

Wow, the s/c on the Parallel Comp return is absolutely amazing! Never though to do that before and it works superbly to push he parallel without creating more peak signal. Thank you for this gem 🔷 Just discovered your channel and really enjoying the way you explain things.

Hey! Great Video! just had 1 question that i've had some trouble understanding, since the dry/wet knob is on the comp, is there a diff between using that to blend as opposed to using parallel comp through Sends? or is this more of a workflow preference? Thank youuu!

Compression to me is the mysterious magic in sound distribution, because you can make sounds that are loud and you cannot or barely hear a person trying to converse with you while you are Jamming Outputs, but once you ( COMPRESS PROPERLY ) you can talk enjoying the conversation and enjoy the music at the same time!!!! A sure test for right DJ-ing!!

is there a way to p comp a drum bus? ie say I make a drum bus send/return, can I then send the drum bus send/return to another send/return which I could then use as a p comp?

Hello Becky!!!...a big question, if we gonna export the individual stems of our project say for example to send it at recording studio for vocals...those parallel processed signals especially on the example with the return channels do they going be printed on the drums group?or we have to treat them like a room mic in a live instruments recording(in this situation we have one channel from the room mic/overheads). sorry for my bad english i hope you understand what I ask.
@BeckySaifMusic
@BeckySaifMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hey great question and happy to answer. When you export your track a dialog box appears. In this box you have 'Rendering Options'. The first in the list is 'Include Return and Master Effects'. When you export 'All Individual Tracks' it will export the stems with the return and master effects included. Disable this option if you would like to export them without the return channels included.
@rac06oon
@rac06oon 2 жыл бұрын
@@BeckySaifMusic appreciate the response!okk so when the returns and master included in stems we will have finally i.e one track from drum parallel and one from the master printed alongside with the stem of the main tracks kick snare bass etc so the engineer will have to keep the stems of every single stem plus the one from returns and master. am I right?

It would be nice if I could write you a long note to get ur socks all twisted together then freshly ironed, so when you put them on they feel like little bundles of cuddles when u move, making life difficult like putting cereal in after milk so the flour blows away with a parakeet singing a nice song about dinosaurs coming to life
