How to do VIBRANT Lighting and Glow Effects on FNF sprites [Easy Tutorial]

2 жыл бұрынIt's surprisingly simple to do this lighting - you don't need adobe animate. Just some normal art/editing programs. It's a bit of a step above the normal overlay and blur ones like in the Hex mod, but it's still pretty consistent. I don't mean any disrespect to the Hex mod - it's one of my favorite mods, but with lighting like this, it could be so much better.

Been using this method a lot in the past few months, both in my own mod, B-Sides Indie Cross, and just reshading Indie Cross occasionally. It’s simple and I’ve gotten pretty used to the process. Thanks a lot for the tutorial, really helps make everything pop!

alright I know that you havent posted in a while and i don't know what you're doing at the moment, but if and when you can, can we get a tutorial for custom sprites. I like that its using a resource everyone can use for free, unlike adobe animate. You also explain things fairly well unlike most tutorials out there. Also thanks for the great vid👍

maybe? For me, I just redo the lighting from scratch the hard way - it doesn't matter as much for backgrounds 'cause it's only static images. They don't gotta be consistent

I don't know if I'm smart for suggesting this idea, but, what if. You make your base sprites first in Adobe Animate. Then once you export them, then you go through this process here and add all the lighting and stuff.

Yeah, that's the idea! It's sorta like how once you're done with a drawing you'll add all sorts of filters over top of it

I imagine that the Indie Cross did the same thing I did for the solid highlights and something similar for the glow effect - I don't think they used the motion blur for lighting tho

@@TheBiggestValentine I had the exact same problem, there is actually a fix I did. Create images for each layer and move it to medibang. If you don't know how to move it to medibang, just open file explorer and find the images, Then drag and drop the images onto the layer tab.

How exactly do you pick the specific parts you want to have glowing without selecting literally everything? For my example-, I'm trying to select Xenophane's crystals to make those glow on his sprites-, How do I select all of those without selecting everything else in the process?

What do you do if the character utilizes mostly dark colors?

As long as it isn't entirely black (exact same color as lineart), it should still work, but if it's someone like Tankman, then you might not wanna separate the lineart

@@thermitefe8299 In my case, the lineart is easily distinguishable from the rest of the darker tones of the image, but even so, trying to select the lineart on its own will also select a buncha other things

@@Migatte uhhhh I made a painted layer the shader color I wanted, then I selected all the transparent pixels on the background layer, inverted the selection and cropped on the painted layer

I haven't posted anything noteworthy yet, but I'm working on a shader that shades 2D sprites to fit properly in 3D environments. For now though, it's either setting the object's color in source, or rendering a new spritesheet in the 3D enviroment itself.

That's fair tbh - if/when I *do* figure out how Shaders work, I'll defo see if I can get something of this quality working properly. In an ideal world, we just give out shader files and modders can just chuck 'em in without thinking Lemme know when you get that working tho! I'm sure it'll be rad

Admittedly, I shaded over them. Since they're not animated, I don't need to worry about weird flickering so I just shaded 'em the way a normal artist would

was gonna do this one but gave up at the one where you select the transparent pixels and then colored them on a layer that isn't the background, It instead just colored the entire screen and I tried everything they said in the comments and it never worked, could have at least explained it better

There is actually a easier way that simply using photoshop and using “Gradient Overlay” tools to the sprite sheet you need to edit a custom gradient and make sure it looks like a nice glow effect its really easy for people knows how to using photoshop,but the effect isnt as good as the way you are using.

well the old method have a...FNF feel to it, realistic doesn't work with cartoon stuff

Partly agree - my way defo isn't very "FNF", but the other one wasn't very FNF either 'cause of the way it accidentally colored the lineart and was kinda blurred. The best way to do it in the "FNF" style would be to go in and reshade each part with a solid pen without any blurs, or just don't do the motion blur step and do the solid highlights instead
