The first part is a drawing course and the second a watercolor course. The subject ? How to paint an expressive mouth in watercolor.
Remember for the drawing:
- the basic shape is a heart in the middle, with two pads on either side of the heart and 2 pads at the bottom, wider in the center.
- when the mouth is not seen from the front, you have to imagine it "turning" around an imaginary semi-circle and you have to represent the volumes of the pads.
- All the mouths have the same shape, with a cupid's bow (the top of the heart) more or less crushed and a different volume of the pads.
To remember for an expressive watercolor mouth:
- It is the successions of layers of colors, varying here from pink to peach, that will make the mouth come alive.
- Every layer counts. Our eye distinguishes very well these almost subliminal subtleties. Mark fine lines at the start of labor, in the direction of the volume of the lip. They will be covered by the following layers but will always be visible in transparency.
- Take a step back at the end of your session and correct your work, even if it means moving away from your reference photo in terms of value because a beautiful mouth is a contrasting mouth.
