Recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching your content since. You convey concepts in a manner that is so easy to understand and I have already started creating monster designs that are far superior to my older sketches. Can’t wait to see what tutorials you make in the future. Would definitely pay to see you create an in depth course or book on your full drawing process. Thanks for all your content.

it's nuts how powerful your advice about patience and layering is. So much appears along the tooth, besides some hand control it's almost as if the paper and graphite make the drawings themselves! I found myself pausing and just doing what felt and looked right, such as the section on making pores and dark spots towards the end, only to find that that was the very next thing you suggested that I had already started to do! Which makes me feel like I'm internalizing the concepts well. I can't thank you enough!!!

I have a question that may or may not be worthy of addressing in a video or not, either way is fine haha. But as I'm working through a creature concept design for someone at the moment I find that designing the creatures profile is the easiest way for me to depict the ideas we're playing with. The trick I'm finding is trying to take some of the designs (Head designs for instance) done in profile and reimagining them in 3 quarters or head on views. Not sure if there are any tricks of the trade to that or just practice, practice, practice at getting better at visualizing it in different views. The easiest way I think would be to just design it in a Zbrush type software or sculpt a mock up of it in clay. Anyway, once again, your videos are fantastic and I've really been taking a fair amount of inspiration from your work. Cheers man.

The outline affect is where i run into trouble. I get to heavy handed at the start and in some areas the line is a darker value than the area. I try and knock it backbut it doesnt always work. I think when im trying to get the perfect line i tend to bear down on the pencil. Another great video!

Oh, man, where were yaou twenty odd years ago when I wanted to do a self portrait with all the scars from my accident that were still so angry? This vid was extremely helpful. I've done some wrinkles and skin imperfections using mech pencils for their fineness to line (0.3mm lead), but I like this way just as well.

Hi. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Another great tutorial! I had problems shading scars and doing wrinkles... they didn't look organic enough. This tutorial has helped me visualize how to improve the shading to increase the texture and overall realism. I will be applying it to my current drawing of a hippo taking a bath. Hippos usually have lots of scars from fights and also wrinkles, specially on their faces, do thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

Ah another OCD sufferer, it is not fun, and it does a number when the perfectionist in us comes out during our attempts to draw Mr. Rebholz. Your work helps. It's just hair that kills me…. damn I hate hair so much right now ahahhahahahaha. I was practicing to your video on hair, I am an African man but I draw subjects with strait hair too, for now I'm focusing on strait hair because it is purposeful for the chimeras m drawing. It's unnerving, but I'll get there. Funny how a passion can be so excruciating sometimes, but that is the way it is is, if we are to take this professionally or seriously, and I am taking this to a professional direction, so your work is invaluable to me.

Mr. Rebholz I don't have a 4b pencil, I think I lost it but I use a 3B, Faber-Castell and even Bismarck pencils. Does the compromise me negatively when I go along with the lessons you provide in your videos. I end, I ave achieved great drawing before without 4b and just by using 2B Bismarck and Faber.Castelli brand, then 6B and 8B. I am not a professional just a natural talent whose parents didn't give the proper support due to the narcissistic family structure I come from but now things are looking up and I think I can live a fulfilling life and even maybe career by drawings (and writing, I love to write to). Give me some feedback please, sir. It would mean a lot for me. Take care and God bless you. 15:00 - 15:30 - Correct!

Thank you, another great video. Do you complete one drawing before starting another? Or do you work on several different ones at a time, like jumping between them, to stop yourself rushing. Also any tips on going too dark too soon?
@bobbyrebholz2183

I rarely jump to a new one. But I do take several breaks when I do a sketch that takes 6-10 hours. I might spread it out over a few days and never do the big ones in one sitting.

I've recently found your channel and I could'nt be more greatful to you and your clear explanations. I'm not into creature designing but I love drawing nature (specially trees) and your shading technique helps a lot to create textures. I'd like to ask you: when you do the first layers in "big" surfaces, like Bartholomew's face, do you manage to cover the whole of it with every stroke or do you do it one part at a time? I'm not sure I'm making myself clear... Thanks!!

Man, the 3D feeling you get is insane. I can feel every wrinkle as a shape. I don't know why I can't work with shapes... I try doing it my way, only adding shadows where I think it's necessary. It fails. Ok, old ways. I try following logic of lighting. Just bluntly make tones depending on the angle to the light. It also fails. I try making this "viewer is the source of light" method, where what you face is white and what's at an angle is shadowed. That also fails. So I see it's not about following instructions of shape drawing guides. There's something else I lack. And to masters like you success seems to be the blind spot. All masters say "yes, it's just that, it's easy, nothing hard" but you probably don't even understand you have something others don't. I don't know what it is. I try so much. So many different approaches. But I think I'd fail to even copy your artwork. Even though physically nothing's stopping me. What I mean is, you obviously apply your common knowledge of drawing shape to drawing wrinkles. It's not a trick anyone could learn, it's high mastery.
