As way of encouragement to those who feel like they can't draw a proper circle: The funny thing about mastering circles for me tends to be to include them in my warm up repetitions, before I get started with any other practice or projects. So - I'll just keep making a circle in one spot, without lifting my pen or pencil, until it starts to actually look circle-shaped. It'll be scribbles, but it will be pleasingly round after about 5 or 15 passes. Then I move over and do it again, but this time, it tends to take fewer repetitions. After enough of these, in a row, my arm seems warmed up to the idea of being comfortable with drawing circles and then it's less of a worry to get them right in whatever I'm working on. They still might not be perfect, but they WILL be better. It usually takes me about 15 minutes to do "warm-ups". This is several different repetitions, including circles and curves. (your time might be more or less than this - whatever works for you) Doing warm-ups also seems to help me relax in general. And reducing stress is something we all can use these days. Hope that helps! :-)
@Michellemontero33
@Michellemontero33 3 жыл бұрын
I second this. For some people, art is just a natural talent. For others, it's learned, especially with muscle memory. I believe because art isn't a "strenuous" activity like for example, football or basketball, people automatically assume it's 'easy'. It only becomes "easy" when you take the time to practice, like any other skill. So with anything you feel you're not good at, keep doing it until you become better. "Repetition is the Mother of Learning." :)
@johnaquino7619
@johnaquino7619 3 жыл бұрын
Correct. :-) . Also - While the repetition itself can produce muscle memory (and this can make drawing an easier task), having that practice guided by occasional hints and tips from more experienced artists along the way may help to steer all that practice towards developing drawing habits that help more than they might hinder.

@@effab1e200 Yes their is an warm up exericise that you can do to draw striaght line circles and elipses better. Basically, on a blank sheet of paper you draw lines all the way down or across it horizontally or veritally, then you can try to draw circle or elipse within those lines without going over the lines. Do this warm up every day for a little while and you will see improvement.

I've been drawing off and on (and off and on) for some 40 years. I've always used reference material to get a general idea of where I wanted to go with a character as far as pose, proportion and clothing design. I've always somehow managed to go from poor attempts at realistic drawing to more exaggerated cartoony style. I now see that there are building blocks (or basic shapes as it were) to creating fun characters. So I can go cartoony and stop worrying about realism (but not so much so that the viewer doesn't understand the drawing). I'm in!!! On to the next video!!!

Great outlook! That's why I love drawing cartoons so much! Drawing should be fun...too many people strive for realism and perfection then beat themselves up about things not looking right!!! I say find that happy medium and enjoy creating!

Thank you so much for this lesson, keep up the good work. I like your teaching style of keeping it literal, but also teaching outside the box. Very helpful ✌️

Sooooo good!! I’ve been watching literally hundreds of videos, looking for a teacher who resonates with my style of learning. You are it, my friend. This video was concise, clear, descriptive, and most importantly, engaging. You have gained a new student and subscriber. I am new to cartooning, wanting to step out of my comfort zone as an abstract artist. Your method of teaching has given me the confidence to continue on my new journey and has increased my excitement for the world of illustration! Thanks for making this video. I’m looking forward to all you have to offer!! Now, on to the next lesson :^)
