Canson XL Recycled Bristol (smooth side) paper
Woodless Graphite pencils (generic brand from Hobby Lobby)
General's 9xxb and Carbon pencils for darkest areas
Low-tack Frisket film (or scotch tape with some stickiness removed)
Tombow Mono Zero eraser
Kneaded eraser

This video is on how to draw realistic wrinkles and skin pores using graphite pencils.
What really helped me to draw better was a project I did 3 months after I started to pencil draw. It was a drawing of a glass of water.

This was the turning point. You see, to do this I had to draw every little detail EXACTLY as shown in the photo. When I first completed the drawing, my wife would look at it and tell me what 'little' thing was not 'exactly' as the photo and I'd go back and make it exact. This went on for a couple of weeks until there was nothing left to change.
What this did was train my eyes to look at details. So from then on, photo details popped out at me and I'd try to reproduce it in the drawing.
Now, I don't try to be as detailed as the glass water drawing to the point where you can't tell the difference between the photo and the drawing. But I take the drawing as close as "I feel like it", with some more than others. The "Girl in the Wall" drawing is one where I really pushed for exact details and was able to achieve photorealism. Others, I didn't push as far and left them to be easy noted as pencil drawings. That's art. Do what feels right to you.
So grab a photo of a simple object, like the glass of water, and force yourself to draw and erase till you exactly match the details in the photo. Have someone else look at it and pick out what is NOT exact and then just change it until it is. It's a challenge, but I guarantee that you will never see photos the same way again after doing this.

Me watching the intro: "wait, which one is the drawing and which one is the picture?" When you let your eyes settle on the two, you'll notice slight differences, but you're so skilled, you manage to make it look like a camera quality shot. Loved the video, thank you for sharing with us!

I do think there is a certain level of natural talent there too though. some folk could practice and learn all day every day, and not get to the level you have. either way... excellent work. glad I found your channel

Comically, I feel a little odd when someone says I have talent. I've just worked hard at looking at the details. If I want total realism, like this Desert Man or the Girl in the Wall, where often many mistake it for a photo, you must draw EXACTLY what you see, including the shading, any small details, etc. When I don't do this, my drawings look more like drawings, which I'm okay with from time to time. Hyper-realism (Girl in the Wall) is very time-consuming and for me I really have to be in the mood to act like a copy machine. Anyone can do it. Question is, do they want to?

I'm glad. I don't consider myself an expert, but actually a novice due to my newness to drawing. And I tried to learn from videos on KZfaq and found them extremely frustrating because it just seems like the majority of the videos are nothing more than someone just showing us he can draw in time-lapse. Even slowing them down doesn't provide much info. And I don't like how they title them "How to..." or "Tutorial" when they aren't teaching anything!!! It feels more like "look at what I can do" type videos. So if I can put out a few videos where I share the process (at least as how I think when drawing) and do so at a speed that allows someone to possibly learn, then perhaps others won't have to go through the frustrations I went through (and continue to go through). I'm still learning and wish some of those hyper draw artists would do some real teaching as to how what they are doing and perhaps why. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for sharing your technique. I have only been drawing a short time myself. I'm a little confused why the dark shadow is on the side facing the light source and the highlight is on the side away from the light source? Seems like it should be the other way around.

Where do you get your prints from? I find pictures on google and use them. But they never print off as highly detailed as the likes of the one you used here

I find most pics online by searching. As to the high detail, that's going to be your printer and software settings if the picture is detailed but your printout is not.

+Thu Der The paper doesn't really have much to do with drawing white beards, as long as the paper is white! I believe for that drawing I used Canson Bristol. But again, it should not make a difference. In order to draw white hair, you must make sure you do not compress your layers of graphite/charcoal. In other words, you layer it on with light pressure. Then you need to pull out the whites after EACH layer of graphite/charcoal to give it depth, using your Tombow Mono eraser, and/or eraser sliver (slice sharp edge eraser), or kneaded eraser. I also use another technique involving tape that I'll later do a video on.

Are you guys entertaining questions?What is the difference between 'turquoise' pencils, regular graphite pencils, and carbon pencils, what exactly are they made of and what are each better at than the others? Will manufacturers provide technical specifications for these products?

Who are "you guys"? Graphite is graphite. Carbon is carbon. Two different mediums. Carbon is mostly used to produce the darkest darks. Graphite cannot produce darks as intensely as carbon. So if you want greater contrast and "pop" you use carbon or charcoal for your darkest darks. Graphite is simply a medium you can draw with and can achieve many shades using different softness and hardness rated pencils. Another difference is that you could end up with a sheen when trying to go really dark with graphite. This sheen is distracting and makes the drawing look terrible at certain angles to the light. You don't get that with carbon. Graphite is easy to erase. Carbon does not erase well.

What kinda papers are best for drawing? I heard printing papers aren't good for drawing. Pls explain thank u

What is 'best' is usually a matter of personal preference. I personally like using Bristol. You will need to match the paper with the style of drawing you want to do. My personal style is mostly photorealism. Thus, a nice white smooth surface works best for me. Printing papers are not designed for drawing. Thus, the 'tooth' of the paper is not the best for grabbing the graphite off the pencil and can be 'too slick'. Hope this helps.

Never heard of fresskit paper. Maybe you are referring to Low-Tack Frisket? It's not a paper, it's a sticky plastic (like tape), but with little tack that it peels off easily.

Thank you, but I really don't think 'natural' talent had anything to do with it...or not much. Here is why: I watched videos, read a few websites, and then practiced what I learned. What really helped me the most, and is what I'd also suggest to others, is when I drew the glass of water. I'll explain this in more detail in the comments of this video as it should appear at top.

I don't use any adhesive paper for skin texture. Perhaps you are referring to regular scotch tape, or low tack frisket?

I have no idea how to do that. Also, Arabic isn't the only language. There are hundreds of languages in the world. So to be fair, I'd have to translate this into every language, not just Arabic in order to help everyone learn. I think the best way to approach this is to put instruction in TEXT on the screen (English of course as that is what I speak and write) and then others can copy and translate to their own languages. Would you agree? (هل توافقون على ذلك؟)

Ultimately got to wrinkles and pores. That’s good. Worrying about the uneven tone or blotches, not so much. Real skin is blotchy and uneven in tone. The video should have been ten to fifteen minutes long. You know this.
