Here we cover the Reilly method, but this time at a 3/4 angle.
It is an incredibly useful tool to add to your arsenal of knowledge when it comes to drawing the human head and face. I hope you find this tutorial useful! I know, personally, I LOVE using this method.

Thank you for this. Using the Reilly Method/Abstraction has really helped me draw faces without reference. Even WITH reference, I struggled to draw a believable looking face! As a frustrated comic book artist, the Reilly method is my preferred method and I'd always wondered why there were no three quarter head profile lessons anywhere. This tutorial is perfect!

Honestly, that's the exact reason that I made the video. I couldn't find a single tutorial on how to do it, so i practiced it enough to be able to do this tutorial, with the hopes of providing an informative resource. I'm so glad you found it useful!

There haven't been good tutorials on this for awhile. It's annoying. Nobody can really teach it well. Other than this method. It just takes brutal years of repetition.

I've tried the Loomis method, but my eyes weren't always in proportion, but ever since I've found out about this Reilly method, drawing faces got so much easier. Thanks alot.

For over a year now I struggled on the Loomis and Reilly method only to give up on both of them. Your videos have finally enabled me to understand the Reilly method and use it successfully. Thank you so much for sharing and describing it in a way that it can be understood. From now on I will always use the Reilly method.

For practice I'd recommend getting a styrofoam ball and cutting off the sides and putting on a simple clay nose wedge and just draw it from all angles over and over again until you go insane.

Thank you so much for your patient step by step instructions. As you said I couldn’t really find a decent tutorial on the Reilly Method. Also thank you for just teaching and not talk talk talking about everything under the sun like some instructors.

I frickin loved it and the way you take a second to explain and describe the placement of the guideline or the purpose for the guideline was very helpful and really helped to remember and just understand... I think you're videos have been the most helpful and I been using KZfaq to learn how to draw for about 8 months and I take about 3 to 4 hours out of each and every day to practice so im sure you can imagine how many videos I've watched.. so thank you very much.. for being awsome... YOU ROCK!!

This is an extremely helpful tutorial. I've struggled with facial proportions and this helps so much, especially for a 3/4th view. It's hard finding specific angle references so I find learning this will help me draw without a need of those types of angle references. Thank you!

Thank you so much for putting together a tutorial on the 3/4 angle of The Reilly Methode. I love the way in which you go slow enough for me to draw at the same time. I have struggled so much with drawing accurate faces but for some reason, I can remember the step in this method and I am so excited.

Well, you helped one artist on the verge of giving up to not do it. After some time spent looking at Reilly methods of drawing I came to the conclusion he seems to be underrated in the artist community. Loomis this, Loomis that. I am sure Reilly had some method for figure drawing, but as with the head method it's scarce. Would you consider doing something like critiques hours in the future?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am a self-taught amateur painter and the one thing I like most to paint is portraits. I was struggling with getting the symmetry right and the Loomis method seemed lame to me (not intending to offend anyone) and I was getting worse results than no method. Now, with Reilley, I get better symmetry. And your video was very clear how to do it. Thanks!!!!

Thank you so much. Loomis emphasizes the importance of learning planes and basically throws a picture of an "Asaro head" at you in his book and says we should learn this and commit it to memory... But it's so hard to do so without a reference. The Reilly Method really solves this issue for me. Thanks, now I know how to tackle this phase in my learning

oh man, thank you. I studied the Reilly Method for the figure with Fogarty at the Art Students League a long time ago, but we never covered the face. Years ago online I tried to find anything on the Reilly method and had a really hard time. I knew it was a great method and wanted to study a Reilly face. No one covers the side view it seems online so I really appreciate this. I had trouble with what seems to be more guesswork on the side view because I wanted the divisions to correspond exactly. Thank you for making it clear that there is some bit of these angles that must be done with some amount of 3D intuition. I would have had a lot of trouble otherwise since the forward view is so specific. Thank you again so much. This was clear and you didn't labor over it and make it tedious. I was able to follow both front and side views that you've taught here. I am going to look up your art now! You have my gratitude.

The eye proportions have been the hardest thing whenever I practice faces. Never have gotten it to look right unless I slavishly copy a photo reference to get proportions. Even then it's not that good. Man. It's so goddamn hard.

I have adopted this method for portrait painting in the grisaille stage as well as drawing. It definitely helps get the balance but does not address likeness which is often where the person differs from the perfect often in the jaw area and eye shapes...i don’t find it too advanced and if you develop the reilly method theory further i would welcome another view or two. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Could you show a sketch from beginning to the finished product. I would really like to see it used through the whole process and show how you get to the end.
